Rather sad thing to say. We have 4 ohio ssbn's with the nukes removed and replaced with 24 7 round cylinders that accept tomahawk. I read an unclassified source that says that about 1/3 are nuclear tipped. That's a deterrence, for sure.

Tomahawk however is an old missile with a relatively high flight profile for a sea skimmer, and moves at about mach 0.6. any detection of the missile could lead to its being intercepted rather easily. Of course, that requires assets to be in place at the right time. Key is rendering air defense systems inert. My fear is this can be done. I say fear because with present leadership, the risk is that such capabilities would be used not simply for deterrence.

I heard a report, maybe on this thread, early in the Ukraine crisis, that GLANOSS (I think that's the Russian gps system) satellites were simultaneously shut down. That capability might have prevented a Russian military response (I am clearly speculating here). but my point is, if we were able to shut that down, we can probably shut down relevant air defense systems as well. This is to say nothing about the tactical use of EA-18G.

You are referring to GLONASS transmitters shutdown on US soil. Are there any Russian air defense systems located on US territory? I would be surprised if there are.

I actually understood the satellites themselves were rendered shut down. I do not have access to military intelligence, and am speaking based on what I've read from a few non-classified sources--speculating. if it were just the emitters in the USA, then I am feeling a little better.

The protests were overtaken by Western Ukrainian ultra nationalists and I believe that's when the protests became violent.

Within a few days after the coup, the newly form government created a new law banning all ethnic language. This was confirmation of Eastern Ukraine's fears of being mistreated with the new government. They quickly withdrew that law but by then The Russians had already walked into Crimea.

This man's language and belief's is just further confirmation of Eastern Ukraine's fears of ethnic cleansing by the ultra nationalists.

When you understand why Eastern Ukraine is resisting, then you understand the overall conflict. If they stop resisting, we will see ethnic cleansing something akin to what Israel is doing to the Palestinians.

Anyway, that's my take on the situation and I believe all ethnic minorities within Ukraine have a right to resist this illegitimate government who are proving to be racist.
