Spelled "stain" on book, but "stein" in description. Getting weirder. I remember "stein" like you. Seems there's something going on.

Are you saying that things or books which used to say "stein", if kept by the owners, that name has been changed to "stain"?

Or are you saying current things?

I specifically remember it being "stain."

I made a mental note of it once. Though I can't remember when, was less than 10 years ago, might've been already after the switch.

When did the switch happen?

I was a "spelling nerd" too, like someone in the mandela effect article claimed, and I just have no doubt in my mind that it was with an 'e.' There aren't very many things I'd say I'm absolutely 100% confident on, but this is one of them.

Everything is digital and can be changed as wanted.

If you have the original books it will tell you.

The only possible explanation for such a thing would be to cover up the original name.

Which leads one to wonder WHY?

Has to be the name... Berenstein... must obviously be a REAL name that accidentally on purpose maybe somehow got published, and drew attention somehow.

It means nothing to me beyond those bears, but it must to someone...

Things that "used" to say stein, now say stain. There are old, vintage items on ebay from the 80's and 90's that all say stain, though their owner's list them as "stein" still (if you enlarge the photos, you will see that the items are spelled differently). I also posted on my FB wall for people to check their old books, and have had several friends post pics of their old copies that they remember saying "stein" that now say "stain."

That's kind of what I was thinking...there is some significance to the name. If it was just a time travel/butterfly effect thing, then we would all remember the name as "stain." So it must be something that was changed within our present time, but that had an effect on everything in the past...

To the above poster who asked, this change probably happened within the last 10 years or sooner. Both of the creators have passed away (the husband in 2005, the wife in 2012), so that could also have something to do with it.

That just freaked me out.

Definitely remember it as Berenstein.

Just as a random supposition / theory...
...possibly in this present timeline track, in past history, there was some reason they did not want the name to sound Jewish?

VERY Weird indeed as that's how I remember it as well.

Maybe it's not so much a parallel universe but a time shift that is affecting us without our knowledge.

I was a meticulous spelling nerd as a child and have ZERO doubt that the books the kids were reading were about the Berenstein Bears. I tried to research Library of Congress and trademark info today, to see if maybe there had at some point been a changeover due to multiple parties using variations of the name. Nope, the official records state that the series was always Berenstain, after the very real last names of the authors (Berenstain.)

It could be something similar with news headlines or statements being made on earlier dates than the actual events that happen, too. While those things could simply just be a false flag mistake, it could be something even bigger.

I remember hearing once about how the day before Columbine, everyone's TV's went fuzzy and there was a weird sound being reported throughout everyone's households. There were reports of calls being made to the hospitals in the area to prepare for a mass casualty event as early as the day before the actual shooting. There is also a picnic table (that has since been removed I believe) that had 4/19/99 carved into it by one of the killers.

One theory for this was that the ACTUAL shooting took place on that Monday, April 19th rather than Tuesday, the 20th. There was also some fishy things going on because the autopsy reports stated rigor mortis had set in too early based on the time of death.

Anyways, I know that was off topic, but I immediately thought of that when thinking about time changing, but the general public being AWARE of the inconsistencies.

Like you OP, I was a spelling bee freak, and had several BB books as a child. I, however, clearly remember the name being Berenstain, because I had trouble pronouncing the name. I couldn't figure out if it was supposed to sound like Burnstain or Bairnstain, but I know it was -stain. I should track down a copy of The Spooky Old Tree just for the art nostalgia alone.

eBay has 0 listings for Barenstein Bears, but lots for Barenstain Bears.

I do remember it as Barenstein though, and so does everyone I ask. It might be due to the way it is printed on the covers of books. It's a script typeface. At a quick glance, one might just assume it says "Barenstein" since "stein" is more common than "stain". Just my take on it. Next time I go to the library with my son, I'll check out the kiddie section and see of they have any old copies.

I even recall when I noticed the change...I asked my wife about it 4 years ago...I was like...why would they change the name? She just told me she rmrmbers that conversation....I always thought I was the only one....keep reading....that painting of Henry VIII with a turkey leg doesn't exist either.

A little exploration into the authors names and history of where they came from may give some clues ab out the timeline.

I had the books and I am pretty sure there was a show.

It was Bernstein, named after the authors.

If anyone has a photo of themselves with a book spelled "stain," that would be even creepier. Or, better yet, a hand-written journal or school assignment that is spelled "stain" rather than "stein."
