Anonymous Coward User ID: 50287210 United States 06/26/2014 05:12 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I just found a video on YouTube explaining how the name "Berenstein Bears" had been changed to "Berenstain Bears," sometime in the last few years even on old, vintage items. This could be proof of a parallel universe if it really has been changed. If you do a search for it, everything comes up as "Berenstain" on the books and/or items, but most of the listings are for the "Berenstein" Bears, as if the sellers or posters remember how it USED to be spelled. Quoting: monkeytine I 110% remember it as "Berenstein," ALL my co-workers including parents who have bought the books for their children also remember it with an 'e,' but perhaps we could all just remember the spelling wrong? What could be the reason behind changing the name (even in the past) if it, indeed, has been tampered with? 100% absolute it is Berenstein Bears. |

It's taken over my day at work lol. Can't focus on anything else now. I was a "spelling nerd" too, like someone in the mandela effect article claimed, and I just have no doubt in my mind that it was with an 'e.' There aren't very many things I'd say I'm absolutely 100% confident on, but this is one of them. |

Which leads one to wonder WHY? Has to be the name... Berenstein... must obviously be a REAL name that accidentally on purpose maybe somehow got published, and drew attention somehow. They don't like LIGHT you know. SO is there someone named Berenstein and what is he? It means nothing to me beyond those bears, but it must to someone... |

Things that "used" to say stein, now say stain. There are old, vintage items on ebay from the 80's and 90's that all say stain, though their owner's list them as "stein" still (if you enlarge the photos, you will see that the items are spelled differently). I also posted on my FB wall for people to check their old books, and have had several friends post pics of their old copies that they remember saying "stein" that now say "stain." |

If it was just a time travel/butterfly effect thing, then we would all remember the name as "stain." So it must be something that was changed within our present time, but that had an effect on everything in the past... ...must do more research! To the above poster who asked, this change probably happened within the last 10 years or sooner. Both of the creators have passed away (the husband in 2005, the wife in 2012), so that could also have something to do with it. |

Maybe it's not so much a parallel universe but a time shift that is affecting us without our knowledge. Here's another possibly interconnecting piece of this merry go round puzzle. Just to add a bit more to this random theory.....from a post on that blog.... "I had overlooked the material here about people remembering the popular children’s books as being Berenstein Bears, not Berenstain Bears; I just saw that today and it blew my mind! I was a meticulous spelling nerd as a child and have ZERO doubt that the books the kids were reading were about the Berenstein Bears. I tried to research Library of Congress and trademark info today, to see if maybe there had at some point been a changeover due to multiple parties using variations of the name. Nope, the official records state that the series was always Berenstain, after the very real last names of the authors (Berenstain.) [link to mandelaeffect.com] It would be interesting to know the history of the authors. Last Edited by Useless Cookie Eater on 06/26/2014 05:45 PM |
monkeytine (OP) User ID: 51098887 United States 06/26/2014 05:50 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | It could be something similar with news headlines or statements being made on earlier dates than the actual events that happen, too. While those things could simply just be a false flag mistake, it could be something even bigger. I remember hearing once about how the day before Columbine, everyone's TV's went fuzzy and there was a weird sound being reported throughout everyone's households. There were reports of calls being made to the hospitals in the area to prepare for a mass casualty event as early as the day before the actual shooting. There is also a picnic table (that has since been removed I believe) that had 4/19/99 carved into it by one of the killers. One theory for this was that the ACTUAL shooting took place on that Monday, April 19th rather than Tuesday, the 20th. There was also some fishy things going on because the autopsy reports stated rigor mortis had set in too early based on the time of death. Anyways, I know that was off topic, but I immediately thought of that when thinking about time changing, but the general public being AWARE of the inconsistencies. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 59672728 United States 06/26/2014 05:50 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Like you OP, I was a spelling bee freak, and had several BB books as a child. I, however, clearly remember the name being Berenstain, because I had trouble pronouncing the name. I couldn't figure out if it was supposed to sound like Burnstain or Bairnstain, but I know it was -stain. I should track down a copy of The Spooky Old Tree just for the art nostalgia alone. |
Burly User ID: 59355443 United States 06/26/2014 05:51 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | eBay has 0 listings for Barenstein Bears, but lots for Barenstain Bears. I do remember it as Barenstein though, and so does everyone I ask. It might be due to the way it is printed on the covers of books. It's a script typeface. At a quick glance, one might just assume it says "Barenstein" since "stein" is more common than "stain". Just my take on it. Next time I go to the library with my son, I'll check out the kiddie section and see of they have any old copies. |

Donkey Jaw User ID: 47319047 United States 06/26/2014 05:59 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I had the books and I am pretty sure there was a show. It was Bernstein, named after the authors. Per Wiki: Name Change from Berenstein Bears to Berenstain Bears The original name of the book series was "Berenstein Bears" not "Berenstain Bears" but it appears that the name was changed at a certain point in time and really no announcement of this change. I know for a fact it was originally the "Berenstein Bears" (you can find books with the original spelling) and other editors and people apparently notice this too, see: "Spelling" at the #2 talk section on this page. It appears they changed the name for some unbeknownst reason and never really mentioned why they changed it too -- does anyone know why and when this name change occurred? Also, why no mention of a name change in the article? A popular book series changing their name should definitely be included in the article.
