Evangelical Christians cheerleading the end of the world.
CNN is running a special on Monday night at 8pm discussing the 40 million wingnuts led by Jerry Falwell who are ecstatic about the proposition of WWIII and the destruction of the planet. They need to live on another planet and destroy that one.

Total complete insanity and madness.

Nah, most of them will still be cheerleading. They won't stop until their sons come home in bodybags. Some of them won't even stop then.

Such is the power of deluded faith.

They wouldn't be cheering if they were actually following the bible either. the word christian just doesn't mean what it used to. We need to come up with a new word for people who follow God. 'Christian' just doesn't do it anymore.

"Cheerleading"??!!
Again, a misportrayal in deception.

If Christians believe current events are possibly fulfilling prophecies made in the Bible, and tell everyone that it looks to be true,
or at least possible, and warns others of what the Bible also says follows.....

If I tell you the road is washed-out ahead and you should stop, does that mean I hate you?

Would it be better that I cheerlead you to race over the edge?
Would that be caring?

If I believe what the Bible says
and what Jesus said,

why do you think I give a shit what Jerry Falwell says?
You care far more about him than I do.
You listen to him more than I do.

yea, I remember reading some rapture forum (can't remember the exact name) that some web page linked to where people were so happy about it, thinking they were going to be taken away and get to "finally go home".

yea, I think they'll be surprised to find out what their home -really- ends up looking like.

Re: Evangelical Christians cheerleading the end of the world.
I'm just saying, people who get happy over war, death, and famine, are seriously screwed up people. people who care more about going to heaven than they do caring for each other aren't what I'd call an ideal christian. they read 'left behind' and they get some sort of belief that they're going to be the first ones to vanish or something.

first of all, it's arrogant to assume that ones self would be raptured in the first place. even if the rapture is actually how it's commonly percieved (which I personally don't believe is the case at all), the choice would not be up to that person, it would be up to their creator.

so when I see a person happy that all hell is breaking loose and people are suffering and dying, I can't help but feel that they are going to be the first ones who are actually deemed 'left behind' instead.

I'm a christian but i don't subscribe to the billy grams, jerry fallwells, benny hinns, terry reids , pat robertsons or other nutjobs in the limelight.

I honestly think these people are NWO plants who are following the Popes plan for WWIII.

These nutjobs don't represent bible believing christians but what I call
Kneejerk escapist judemental XTIANS.

But allas there are far more nutjobs who call themselves christians but are far more duped than the leftwing nutjobs on the liberal side of the lillypad.

I honestly don't think Jesus is cheering on the unmerciful killing of innocent people in order to "bring about the end of the world and the rapture".

These people have sown to the wind and will reap the whirlwind. God is not mocked, whatsoever a man soeth to , that man will reap from what he has sown.

Well all I can say is that all christians will be labled warmongers and extremists when this WW III breaks out. To bad the nutjobs will unleash massive persecution on the rest of us.

strange. is today your first day on GLP?

if you had the ability to read things thoroughly rather than just graze over them you would have noticed that I did in fact mention people.

the fact is, there will always be people who cheer over death, chaos, and destruction. it's horrible, and it is completely ungodly.

you seem to have this sort of anger against this thread, as though people are trying to paint christians in general in a bad light. I assure you, we're not. (well, at least I'm not). I suppose it's understandable if you feel that way, however, to say that these types of christians don't exist would be an outright denial, because they do. you only need to go to those rapture forums to see what I'm referring to.

Re: Evangelical Christians cheerleading the end of the world.
I too am ashamed to call myself a Christian and would love to find another moniker for who we are - believers in Jesus.

The 'evangelical' pre-trib dispensationalists follow a man made doctrine that is a cop-out. They won't be here when the shit hits the fan so the slightest notion - especially regarding Israel - of impending global doom is a big sign that they'll soon be lifting off. Where? To have a wedding feast in Heaven with Jesus while everyone else on earth (including those Christians who don't believe in the pre-trib rapture) will be suffering unbearably. And, the Holy Spirit will be going with them, such great lights of faith they are.

But the really scary thing - what happens when they find out they're wrong? When they're still here and all hell breaks loose. They won't be too happy then will they? Will their faith be shattered? Be in denial? It will be interesting won't it? And the other scary thing as another poster said, there are a lot more of them than there are of us...

I sort of feel sorry for them. We are supposed to be humble like Jesus, who suffered and gave his life, and they are quite arrogant to think they are special enough to be angelically 'airlifted' off the planet so they don't have to suffer.

God has not appointed us to wrath

and there is a period known as the wrath of God.

It might be true.
But you presume it's not
and judge those who believe and declare.
Would you silence the watchman on the wall,
prefering that known danger hit unannounced and unprepared for?
Or should a watchman warn people of what he think he sees on the horizon and approaching?

Re: Evangelical Christians cheerleading the end of the world.
But pre-tribbers aren't watching to prepare people for danger - they're watching for their ticket out of here. They look for signs that tell them when they're going to be raptured, but that contradicts one of their main tenets, which is imminence - there are no signs before Jesus comes to meet them in the air. Which I might add is all based on a misinterpretation of one of Paul's babblings.

And how has Isaiah 17 and the destruction of Damascus suddenly turned into a sign that Jesus is coming very, very soon?

Pre-tribbers have to twist scripture in an extraordinary contortionist act to make everything fit their escapist faith.

As for the wrath of God - no we are not here when God pours out his wrath, but how do pre-tribbers get the 'Antichrist' confused with God? Is the 'Antichrist' God's wrath? Does God's wrath last for seven years? Does the tribulation last for seven years? Guess what? NO ONE KNOWS! And that's the WAY God intends it to be. Why do you think Revelation is so symbolic, and Daniel is sealed until the end of times? We are all guilty of reading scripture and interpreting it based on pre-conceived teachings, notions and understanding, but Pre-tribbers are the blind leading the blind, especially when they think the Left Behind series is great reading and 'so true' sigh!!!!

Re: Evangelical Christians cheerleading the end of the world.
Jesus told us to look up when all the signs He prophesized start happening, that our redemption draws near. Personally, I don't think He meant pre-trib. I think we Christians will go thru the tribulation, right up until near the very end, before the wrath of God is poured out. For those who believe in Jesus Christ are not appointed unto God's wrath.

I am not happy about war, and death and destruction, no matter who it is happening to. However, when I see things like what is happening in the middle east right now, and realize it could escalate into a wider war and perhaps more prophecies coming to pass, I am happy about the thought of Christ coming back to earth. I did not write the prophecies, I am only observing, like Jesus Christ said to do. I also try to spread the good news of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, also like He said to do.

I follow no man, no Jerry Falwell, I follow Jesus Christ. He is the one who said what will come to pass, and it is He who offers us eternal life. He is the only one capable of bringing true peace to this earth, and so I welcome that day. In the meantime, I will try to help others to see that Jesus Christ is the only way to eternal life
