Man Gets Ticket for Driving While Eating a Cheeseburger WTF?

I've never heard of someone getting a ticket for eating while driving seriously wtf...

Hadn't heard of this before, but I could see how it could deflect from his driving, like texting would. Need both hands you know.

You do understand that the reason texting bans take place isn't because you take one hand off the wheel right? (It's both eyes that are the issue... if you didn't)

Me? I read the newspaper and eat a bowl of soup while I drive.

I used to roll joints smoke cigarettes and eat fast food at the same time driving a stick shift and I never got in no accident!

i always thought it was bs that you could eat a whopper with cheese or pizza while driving, but you cant even TOUCH your phone in australia.

consequently i think its revenue raising as everyone who can afford a car can afford a phone probably. now they gone for the whopper as well i think my point is proven.

why stop at burgers? your hand was resting on your lap sir. i'm charging you with distracted driving coz you rubbed your weiner with your left hand and both hands were not on the wheel?

A couple in Spain were each fined in Spain last week cos the passenger gave the driver a kiss. Seems like they had stopped at the lights or something when she leaned over and carried out the not so dirty deed. Don't know what the driver got but the passenger was separately fined 80 euros.

American drivers are already distracted with their phones.

I am all for a eating ban while driving.

It's sort of a pre crime thing.

He may not have been distracted at the time the officer saw him, but he was one drip away from a head on collision.

Some states claim to require one hand on the wheel at all times, but no state requires two. How would you actuate any other controls, like wipers and headlights?

Eating while driving is a time honored way to prevent boredom and excess tiredness. It's the only reason I've been able to drive as much as I have accident free. For a driver with even a year's experience, it's just normal.

Now let's get back to that stupid video of a cop dancing at the wheel with both hands in the air and shaking around to Taylor Swift...

Distraction is always the issue. The baby crying and mom trying to address it or map reading, or looking at the accident across the road.

People crash because they are distracted, hamburger or not.

Well if he had been eaten a real burger I could maybe understand the ticket, because a real burger takes two hands to eat! And there is no way you can drive and eat one at the same time.

Someone I know got a ticket for checking his phone while completely stopped at a red light. That's outrageous.

Seems the new "distracted driver" laws most states are passing means that in the car you can't look at that phone at all for any reason.

That may be challenged according to laws in state

Govts need money. Just send out the tickets and maybe millions will just pay them instead of fighting.

It is because you are suppose to keep two hands in the wheel .. I know it's illegal in CT because I got caught in a seatbelt check and was eating a wrap and he could have ticketed me .. No eating or drinking but suprisingly you can smoke?!

You can't have food or a drinks container in your hands whilst operating the steering wheel at the same time.. think here it comes under 'driving without due care and attention,' with a fine or points on one's license. But, no problem with picking at food like chips or drinks if reaching for them on the dashboard, passenger seat or one's lap. I've lost many a Mars bar driving when spooked by a cop car nearby, incase they said sommat.. so dropped it.. like I'd drop a mobile phone.

as ridiculous as this sounds, based on this world's illogical logic, drive thru will one day be banned because it encourages people to drive distracted.

there will prob even be a hashtag campaign callng parents killers for driving thru and eating a quick burger and fries on the way to soccer.
