Quoting: Anonymous Coward 17942575 Good GOD! Big F-ing deal man. Even if you have a 25 gal tank what is the big deal? if it goes up a dollar a Gal that is only 25 Bucks. You people are ignorant I said I'd be filling up my gas tank, not filling my swimming pool with gasoline. Calm down, just trying to save some GLPers a few bucks. |

This action marks the start of the biggest such walkout following a similar strike in 1980, when a work stoppage kept lasted three months. Quoting: Oily 17942575 I won't presume to understand the dynamics of geopolitics, but it seems ridiculous that such crazy sh*t is going on with gas and oil right now. 50% cut in crude oil price now U.S. refineries are going on strike, it just seems bizarre to me that so much happens at the same time. Also, I don't really remember the effect of the 1980 strike, anyone around here care to remind me? [link to gravernews.com (secure)] Fire the uniontards and replace them. Problem solved. |

You people are ignorant And filling up 3-4 times a month costs an extra $100, which can be a big hit to people on a budget. Don't be so ignorant Daddy Warbucks. The universe is basically an animal. You people are ignorant I fill up my tank EVERY day, because I need to. Oil prices are the biggest factor in short term expansion/contraction of the economy. Also, we don't need another damn gas crisis. Hours wasted each day trying to get gas so we can do the rest of the things we need in life. Yes, there was a gas shortage in 1980 |

I work at the BP refinery in Whiting Indiana so I'm gonna enjoy the time off. I could gives a fuck about what's going on since I'm a sub contractor. It doesn't really effect my work too much but with everyone gone there's not much I can do except sit around, smoke bongs, and collect pay checks. The union fags are pissed cause they don't get paid much while the corporation as a whole is netting 50 billion in profits even on a bad year. They're just asking for a little more cashola. I don't blame them. |
Resister User ID: 36421936 United States 02/02/2015 12:27 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Unless you drive very very little, filling up your tanks to hedge against any long term shortages is pretty pointless. For my example, I put about 85-90 miles per day on my car just going back and forth to work which means I fill up the tank about every 3 days. My wife drives a little less and gets a better mileage, but still she would be filling up the tank about once a week. Don't get me wrong, I like to keep the tanks full, but it just isn't going to buy me any more than a couple of days. "God forbid we should ever be 20 years without such a rebellion. The people cannot be all, & always, well informed... If they remain quiet under such misconceptions it is a lethargy, the forerunner of death to the public liberty... Let them take arms... What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots & tyrants. " - Thomas Jefferson in 1787 |

Panic over this is dumb if it was 60% of oil workers than maybe. But even then you have enough being laid off in the Drilling side that would soak thoes jobs in a heartbeat. I'd be surprised if we saw a 2 cent increase. DON'T BE STUPID. |

Right, fuck the unions, let the big corporations make billions in profit per year and pay the workers jack shit. Then why did they take the jobs? Because they are with the union, it pays like it should. The contract between the union and the company is what insures it. If you remove the union you get bs like Mercedes and Toyota do in the south, hire temp workers and pay them $9/hr vs the $~20/hr that the union workers of Ford, GM, Chrysler. |

Unions are good for the workers, it's only the greedy corps. who hate unions. Unions give bargaining power to the workers, instead of the non-union workers, where it's just one person vs the corporation. There is power in numbers, dumbass. |
