Quoting: Anonymous Coward 68461677 That I can believe. I've never considered math to be particularly logical. It's not something you can figure out on your own using logic. You have to know precise formulas. If you don't know them, you get wrong answers. With the word definitions, even when I don't know them, I can look for roots, similar words, prefixes and suffixes and get a feel for possible answers. I can use logic to determine the meaning of a word I've never heard before. You can't do that with math. You either know it or you don't. |

This nonsense about right brain/left brain dichotomy is a joke. Language and art is just as much math and pattern recognition as mathematics. Dont use a cheap cop out to say that high iq means your a left brain boring person. Why do all great artists use sacred geometry and mathematical proportions in their creation? |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 68461677 What if good math skills is "noting" more than good observation skills. High IQ would then "only" indicate good observations skills. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 34747296 What's wrong, struck a nerve? I'm not talking to you because you're obviously incapable of any sort of empathy/compassion for others, as you are the one who said you would actually laugh at someone if they were to fall down some stairs. I'm sure if that happen to you, and you got laughed at, with your own pride hurt, you would be like "OH fuck you tard, I bet you haven't gotten laid recently, I'm an engineer and much smarter than you HURRR" I would laugh esp if it was due to their own clumsiness. And then I would help them up if they were not hurt too bad, just their pride. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 34747296 Help them up only if they're not hurt too bad, huh? Sociopathic asshole. |

Gali User ID: 19192840 United States 03/03/2015 02:42 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | There are many facets to this subject. First, not all math is the same, and as a result some are good at some parts and not so good at others. Some are good at arithmetic, and these are the ones that you want to ask to check the bill from the waiter/waitress. Some are good at geometry because they are visual, but bad at equations, because they forget to do all the steps properly and get the wrong answer. And then there is the matter of motivation. For example a young man interested in learning about electricity may not like the computations, but learns to do them because he desires the benefits from the knowledge. Some are lazy, like me, and do not want to slog through the math and pay attention to all the steps to get from A to Z. As for intelligence, there are many types beyond those tested in IQ tests, as pointed out by several people. You can read about these by Googling or Yahooing the subject. IMHO, the most important aspect of intelligence is USE. Having a find mind and not using it much is like having a Lamborghini in your driveway and never driving it faster than 40 mph. I knew a guy like that. Then there is the philosophical aspect. A person of high intelligence may not have the desire to know the truth, and consequently will accept all kinds of nonsense due to not evaluating the information to eliminate accidental and deliberate errors. And he may know part of the truth, but has made some kind of deal with one or more groups whose agenda involves concealing the truth from others. His job may depend on saying or writing only those things that are politically correct. Example: scientists at NIST who KNOW that 9/11 was an inside job, but don't dare to say it. Bottom line: It is a complex subject; it takes intelligence and knowledge to even begin to understand it. And what we think we know is a cup of water compared to the ocean that we don't know. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 46260929 Trust me, at the end of the day, I have respect for math and all of that, just not the people that utilize it; because most of the time, they are miserable sociopaths, incapable of any sort of empathy, compassion, humility, or anything of the sort. In fact, when you utilize both spheres, that is when you are one powerful human, because you are capable of both; unfortunately for most people, it is only one side or the other. It is not a joke, nor is it a dichotomy, you're either on the side of of math/science/logic/reason endeavors, or the side of creative/artistic/philosophical/spiritual endeavors. I haven't had my coffee yet guys, and didn't sleep well last night; so I'm sorry if I pissed you guys off when my first post. I've just been around too many engineer type of people (Hell my own brother is an engineer) that are just flat out hurtful and damaging. I am finished with this thread, any responses will not be read. Thank-you. |
