My tankless hot water heater froze up last week and the inside heat exchange coil ruptured causing the unit to spew out water. Since this was due to the weather, would it be covered under homeowner's insurance? I've since ordered a conventional tank unit but a friend said I might be able to claim on insurance. Anyone know? |

I know my insurance would because I specifically asked them if pipes or water tanks flood the house.. they will cover it. Just call them. Like any claim though there usually cunts giving back your money lol. good luck. Take your own photos of the damage. |

They are wrong unless you have a specific exclusion against freeze claims, read your policy if you have one, I work with State Farm and frozen pipes are covered, get your plumber to give you a written copy of exactly what was damaged and what caused it, once you have this in hand request a sit down with your agent, and go over your policy and have him explain to you either why or why not on coverage. And rule of thumb on coverage, if it is sudden and accidental then you have coverage but if it was leak ( drip drip) and it took a while to find then you may not have coverage. If you the water heater failed then insurance would pay for resulting dmg but not the water heater. If the water heater froze or some portion froze and ruptured then they owe to replace what ruptured along with resulting dmg. Hope this helps |
