I've got the book and read it... just pure fantasy an unproven technology. show me a mass EMP test where it knocked out power grid on even a mock city?.... none

Again, an EMP is simply one option. The FACT is they are moving back into this base for a reason. What is it?
 Quoting: Wash

I agree, EMP is easier to protect with shielded rooms. Even shielding the building is cheaper then moving everything to an antiquated bunker.

That place is built for the worst of the worst case scenario.

Maybe the US is going to do something that might risk nuclear war.

Or they are going to take over the current US government.

Impact scenario, alien invasion, civil unrest of the worst kind.......

Re: U.S. Military moving back into 'Stargate' base deep under the Rocky Mountains. WTF?
Over the past several years, former Republican House speaker Newt Gingrich has warned that EMP attacks could “throw all of our lives back to an existence equal to that of the Middle Ages.” According to Gingrich, millions would die in the first week of the attack, and what’s worse is that the U.S. is not taking the threats, which parallel nuclear strikes from North Korea and Iran, very seriously.

Skeptics have attacked Gingrich for sounding unnecessary alarms. But the Pentagon’s reinvestment in Cheyenne suggests that the tide of opinion in government defense circles may be shifting to line up with Gingrich’s assessment of the risks posed by EMP technology.

Months before publication, One Second After has already been cited on the floor of Congress as a book all Americans should read, a book already being discussed in the corridors of the Pentagon as a truly realistic look at a weapon and its awesome power to destroy the entire United States, literally within one second. It is a weapon that the Wall Street Journal warns could shatter America.

I agree. Who is going in there? Why?

Plus this.....it is cited the move is over protecting equipment from EMP.

Well, I know that protection doesn't need to be a large mountain with all the costs that come with it.

It can be as simple as rooms being shielded, cables running between locations shielded as well.

it would be FAR CHEAPER to simply harden the hardware.

Hardware that HAS BEEN hardened since the discovery of EMP.

"And so, there's a lot of movement to put capability into Cheyenne Mountain and to be able to communicate in there," Gortney told reporters.

"My primary concern was... are we going to have the space inside the mountain for everybody who wants to move in there, and I'm not at liberty to discuss who's moving in there," he said

The EMP resulting from Starfish Prime and Fishbowl nuke tests...know your history people!!!

When the bomb detonated, those electrons underwent incredible acceleration. When that happens they create a brief but extremely powerful magnetic field. This is called an electromagnetic pulse, or EMP. The strength of the pulse was so huge that it affected the flow of electricity on the Earth hundreds of kilometers away! In Hawaii it blew out hundreds of streetlights, and caused widespread telephone outages. Other effects included electrical surges on airplanes and radio blackouts.[snip]

Here is an interesting Raytheon product, the Terminal High-Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) System.

The Army has a Missile Defense concept that has a higher tier (THAAD) and lower tier, the Patriot system. THAAD provides high-altitude protection over a wider area. Working toogether, the Patriot and the THAAD systems yield what Raytheon characterizes as a "strong, coordinated defense" against ballistic missile attack.

"...

An integral part of the THAAD System, the THAAD radar is an X-band, phased array, solid-state radar. It supports the long-range functional requirements of the THAAD mission by delivering high power output and exceptional beam/waveform agility.

...

In addition to the THAAD radar, Raytheon provides weapons systems engineering and Battle Management Command, Control, Communication, and Information (BMC3I) support for the program."

Read between the lines here people.
"And so, there's a lot of movement to put capability into Cheyenne Mountain and to be able to communicate in there,"
The Gov feels the NEED to reactivate underground centers.
"My primary concern was... are we going to have the space inside the mountain for everybody who wants to move in there, and I'm not at liberty to discuss who's moving in there,"
Just WANTING in does not get ones access to an underground Military base. You have to be allowed and to be allowed there would have to be a NEED for you to be there. What groups would be needed? Military Command Structure, Government Services Command Structure.

Cheyenne Mountain was never closed up, it was just repurposed. If it is an EMP they scared of, this would be the perfect place to be. It's a big metal box buried in the middle of a mountain. The whole thing is mounted on springs to protect it from earthquakes or nuclear bombs. I'm not surprised they are spending a bunch of money to up date it. As for "moving back in", they never moved out. Cheyenne Mountain has always been an active military installation. If it had ever been decommissioned, I would have been the first in line to go check it out, but that never happened. It's only a couple hundred miles from here, so I would love to spend a few days there. I have talked to people that have been there, and they wont talk about it. The TV specials are the closest we will ever get to seeing inside. One thing people will say is that getting in is scarey, and it takes a long time to get through the security at the gate.
Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst.

Why is the military moving back into 'Stargate' base deep under the Rocky Mountains a decade after it was abandoned?

Cheyenne Mountain Complex being refurbished by Pengaton

High tech communications being installed that are impervious to electromagnetic pulses

The bunker is build under 2,000 feet of the Rocky Mountains and is able to withstand a hit by a 30 megaton nuclear blast

Decommissioned 10-years ago because 'the Russians were no longer a threat'

The Pentagon last week announced a $700 million contract with Raytheon Corporation to oversee the work for North American Aerospace Command (NORAD) and US Northern Command.

Admiral William Gortney, head of NORAD and Northern Command, said that 'because of the very nature of the way that Cheyenne Mountain's built, it's EMP-hardened.'
