Even shielding the building is cheaper then moving everything to an antiquated bunker. That place is built for the worst of the worst case scenario. Maybe the US is going to do something that might risk nuclear war. Or they are going to take over the current US government. Impact scenario, alien invasion, civil unrest of the worst kind....... |

Crazed Baron Haha User ID: 56901053 United States 04/09/2015 11:07 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Over the past several years, former Republican House speaker Newt Gingrich has warned that EMP attacks could “throw all of our lives back to an existence equal to that of the Middle Ages.” According to Gingrich, millions would die in the first week of the attack, and what’s worse is that the U.S. is not taking the threats, which parallel nuclear strikes from North Korea and Iran, very seriously. Quoting: Wash Skeptics have attacked Gingrich for sounding unnecessary alarms. But the Pentagon’s reinvestment in Cheyenne suggests that the tide of opinion in government defense circles may be shifting to line up with Gingrich’s assessment of the risks posed by EMP technology. [link to dailycaller.com] He wrote the forward in One Second After.. If you haven't read it, I suggest you do! Soon! Months before publication, One Second After has already been cited on the floor of Congress as a book all Americans should read, a book already being discussed in the corridors of the Pentagon as a truly realistic look at a weapon and its awesome power to destroy the entire United States, literally within one second. It is a weapon that the Wall Street Journal warns could shatter America. [link to www.amazon.com] I agree it should be on any prep-minded individual's "to read" list. The climactic battle between the two factions smacks a little of end-of-the-world craziness, but overall it's an affecting and thought-provoking book. The best lack all conviction, while the worst are full of passionate intensity. --William Butler Yeats, "The Second Coming" ...WELCOME TO THE SHOW. |

When the bomb detonated, those electrons underwent incredible acceleration. When that happens they create a brief but extremely powerful magnetic field. This is called an electromagnetic pulse, or EMP. The strength of the pulse was so huge that it affected the flow of electricity on the Earth hundreds of kilometers away! In Hawaii it blew out hundreds of streetlights, and caused widespread telephone outages. Other effects included electrical surges on airplanes and radio blackouts.[snip] |

Epic Beard Guy User ID: 64860705 United States 04/09/2015 11:15 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Cheyenne Mountain was never closed up, it was just repurposed. If it is an EMP they scared of, this would be the perfect place to be. It's a big metal box buried in the middle of a mountain. The whole thing is mounted on springs to protect it from earthquakes or nuclear bombs. I'm not surprised they are spending a bunch of money to up date it. As for "moving back in", they never moved out. Cheyenne Mountain has always been an active military installation. If it had ever been decommissioned, I would have been the first in line to go check it out, but that never happened. It's only a couple hundred miles from here, so I would love to spend a few days there. I have talked to people that have been there, and they wont talk about it. The TV specials are the closest we will ever get to seeing inside. One thing people will say is that getting in is scarey, and it takes a long time to get through the security at the gate. Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst. "America is at that awkward stage. It's too late to work within the system, but too early to shoot the bastards." -- Claire Wolfe |
