i think it's very odd. they have the swarms of minis in cali and alaska posted. and it says worldwide so they ought to be on there.

I'm the developer of My Earthquake Alerts (the app, the website and the Twitter account). I saw quite a few of you are using it.

The reason why some of you were receiving notifications and not being able to see the earthquakes in the app was because the previous data feed the app relied on was sometimes very slow at finding a confirmed earthquake. It sends a notification when an earthquake is CONFIRMED, not when it happened. This should usually happen a few minutes after, but the previous data feed sometimes took many hours.

Therefore, some of you were receiving a notification when the earthquake happened many hours previously, which meant the earthquake was showing in the app, but quite far down in the "recent" list.

You'll be glad to know that I've added a new data source for Canada which should fix this now. The huge number of notifications that were sent out all at once was because this new data source found a whole bunch of smaller earthquakes that the app hadn't shown yet, so it sent a crazy number of notifications. In retrospect I should have dealt with that better.

Apologies for the long message, just thought I'd explain what some of you are seeing. Happy to hear feedback too :)

Which one to believe? Not knowing much about our friends to the North I try to default to believing the best of folks I don't really know much about, so I would believe their map with nothing else to go on. Knowing how often and how badly the US government lies to the general public, and how important a quake swarm on the Juan de Fuca plate could be, I'd assume Uncle Sam is lying to keep the blind, deaf, dumb, and hyper entertained from becoming alarmed.

BTW...Lake Tahoe is mad by a very peculiar fault called a grabben fault... the mountains on either side of the lake move north and south, while the plate between actually drops! That's one reason Tahoe is so deep, not glaciers...
