The first time was a little unnerving but I was able to relax and go into a short meditative state about the third time. I think with practice it could be very beneficial and the magnesium salt is very good for sore muscles. It's kind of gross going into a public bath like that though. |

I did it for 90 minutes. It takes a while to relax when you first get it in so you don't really get into a relaxing state for at least 30 minutes your first time. It is a little trippy at first because all your senses are cut off and you don't know your surroundings but that goes away. Afterwards I was the most relaxed I had ever been in my entire life. I can't imagine how I would feel going again with my body used to it. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 69379428 United States 06/02/2015 09:54 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I'm going to use the float tank, or sensory deprivation tank this Saturday to enter a deep meditative state for hopefully as long as two hours. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 69397429 I'd like to ask you GLPers if you have experience with it. What did it feel like to you? Do I have to have preparations of any sort? (I'm going to cut meat from the diet and avoid all alcohol, caffeine and all stimulants. I built and used two float tanks back the eighties. In my experience and the experience of several friend that use the tank, the phenomenon of near total body relaxation from the weightlessness effect of the epsom salt solution allows and promotes a number of non ordinary state of consciousness. Including deep meditation, out of body, spontaneous vivid "waking dreams," and even more, like stopping the internal dialogue. This of course is predicated on learning to fully relax in the float tank environment, and this unlikely to happen the first time you float. For example, people have a tendency to hold their head up because they are afraid it will sink, yet the Epsom salt solution will easily float the head as well as the rest of the body. When a person tries to hold up his head, this creates unnecessary muscle tension and the full relaxation experience isn't realized. Once you lean to completely relax then the many of the other phenomenon are possible. In fact, the "secret" of floating is learning to relax then relax some more, in other words, releasing the constant tension of muscles and the "body armor," which in effect keeps you in the "here and now," consciousness. However, this can't be taught. You have to learn to do it yourself by trial and error. The point is don't expect something extraordinary in your first couple of floats. It may happen, depending on the person and the persons mind set and intent, but generally these phenomenon will take several float sessions. |

I recommend it for everyone. I rented out time in my tank and what I always remember is the change in people's voices, before and after. Much deeper and more relaxed. My longest float was about 3 hrs, only way I knew this is because I check the time in and time out. I totally disappeared and three hrs later was brought back to consciousness by a loud noise which increased until their was a blinding flash of light. mondali |

I doubt anything could live in that concentration of epsom salt. Plus the water is filtered like a spa and either chlorine or an equivalent kill anything left. |

You're right but it's more of a mental block, like putting on someone else's underwear even though it's been washed. |
