You can interpret bible verses pretty much anyway you want to. It's how Christians worm around the apparently unpleasant things the scriptures seem to say. So i'll go with you on this one, the idea of a god being a competetive eating cannibal, is quite fun and entirely fitting of primitive religious thinking.

Through out the bible humans are dehumanized, told we are the sheep of his pastures, and the Lord is our Shepherd. We must obey him.
