Why do Canadians dislike Australians?

Yeah they always get really offended when we can't tell them apart from Americans.

In my experience Canadians love Australia but Australians know nothing about Canada because they are overshadowed by the US and our media ignores them. There seem to be more Canadians in Australia then Americans despite the US having 10 times the population.

Our ignorance of Canada is not good, but the fact there is more Canadians here than Americans is a good thing.

Because the Canadians' ancestors had a lucky escape from spending months and months at sea being becalmed in a passive Pacific, by first discovering the North West Passage?

But then the Australians went on to live in the tropics, drink fermented coconut water, eat baked crocodile, wear dinky hats with corks, and tell big stories about the size of their knives.

But then Canadians are tall poppies too.

Ive never hear a Canadian say a single bad thing about Australians. The opposite, rather, Australia seems to be a place most Canadians would like to visit someday. We are in many ways similar countries, children of mother England in the vast hinterland at the far off edges of the world.

I don't hate Australians.. in fact Canadians if anything hate Brits more then we hate Australians.

They don't. In fact chatting with some, they have one the best accents on earth and laughter. More like giggles. Really cool group. Like Australians just fine.

I for one like the Aussies, especially that Steve Irwin fellow. Loved his show, tough old bloke as they say. Krikey that Irwin fellow could really wrestle a mean gator and wedge his thumb right up the gators hoop. RIP to Steve Irwin, aussies rule.

I worked with two for three years in the US. They were very nice and reminded me a lot of Canadians.

WE really don't have that much in common with Australians besides a common language.

The 3 founding nations of Canada (who fought against 10 to 1 odds for their independence in several wars) were the French and Indians and the English ( Loyalist refuges from the USA and Scottish actually).

Australians don't have that existential struggle in their past or the need to unite while maintaining their sovereign identities.

I don't think we do. I had an Australian girlfriend.
