The striving for basic needs is what put the human race at the top of the food chain. The striving built civilization, promoted innovation, growth, and achievement. The striving vastly improved the gene pool and weeded out the weak, poorly developed, and ill-prepared.

I would say the LACK of striving in modern times is quickly sinking us as a species and allowing the unintelligent, weak, and lazy to thrive and over-breed.

Think about it, fuel prices have gone down, but the food costs have not. The food costs should be lower because it now costs LESS to transport it. Someone is making huge profits off this bullshit!

Average cost is $250.00 a week to feed a family of 5 here.

Milk is almost $4.00 a gallon.

A loaf of damn bread is over $1.50

A pound of meat is almost $5.00

The costs are insane! They should be 1/2 that price.

I'm thinking that, if I were to labor two thirds of my life away to PRODUCE food, i.e. cultivate the land, plant and nurture crops and such, and someone came along and demanded I give up all that labor so that you can get a free lunch, I'd probably find it easier to put a bullet in them.

Invest in a chest freezer, a vacuum sealer, and some airtight containers. Buy meat and staple pantry items in bulk. Grow a vegetable and herb garden. Dump all of the processed, pre-packaged, and EXPENSIVE food items. With some basics - chicken, beef, potatoes, onions, garlic, flour, sugar, butter, milk, and a well-stocked spice cabinet, you have thousands of meal options, while only visiting the store for fresh produce. Make big meals, double portions, and seal and freeze the extra. Twice the meals with less work and less money. There are endless ways to stretch your food dollar is you're willing to put in minimal effort and a little creativity.

I can understand earning maybe 20% max profit, but 200-300% profit? That is called a thief!

Be grateful - I pay $8/ half gallon of milk, bread is $7+

Fresh baked, sliced Italian bread is $1 a loaf at Walmart
Other breads can be found for $1 a loaf, or less, at bakery outlet stores
Beef can be under $3/lb if purchased in bulk
Chicken and turkey are amazingly inexpensive if purchased as a whole bird. The chicken can be carved or roasted, the carcass will be the perfect base for an amazingly rich and tasty stock.
Buy a meat grinder and you can use your beef and pork trimmings to make your own ground beef, sausages and hot dogs.
You'll be at least 1/2 your cost, if not even less, if you put in the effort and shop the sales.
Or pay more for the convenience...but that's all it is - convenience. You've driven right past necessity.
