I have hands free text capability in my truck. I talk and the vehicle does it's best to figure out what the fuck I just said and texts it to whoever I say.

How will they know if you were stopped at a light? Or pulled over at the side of the road? Or had just gotten on the road? Etc.

True solution would to coordinate software between the phone company with your vehicles onboard computer
to either disable texting while driving or alert via some interop layer / system without being forced to invade your privacy.

you setup software "specifically" to focus on and look for the defined issue. Too much power given to individuals who have proved time and again that power corrupts absolutely.

Agreed. The article claims the device would only detect activity and not have access to personal data, which very well could be bullshit.

If they wanted to stop the problem they would stop the problem.

They don't. Their solution shows us they only want to find new ways to generate revenue!

New York was also the first state to introduce the Hands Free only law, and all other states soon followed. They will want their share of the revenue from this too.

So, how does that damn thing know if you were stopped at a stop sign or stop light when you used your phone? Are you telling me the laws are so strict that you can't use your phone when sitting in your non moving vehicle, whether at a stop light or sitting on the curb?

Or how do they know it wasn't the passenger using your phone? Or like in my daughter's case, she sometimes hands her phone to her child so he can have his talk time with daddy while she is commuting.
