My dog ate better than me whilst I was at uni. My mum used to cook him chicken, boiled carrots and gravy.

That's a big no for me. Cheapest shite available in USA probably isn't the same as in Australia. I like my dog. He deserves good healthy food
That little girl from Salt Lake City. Two quart legs and two rubber titties. Loves electricity, but she burns off gas. Got a V8 pussy and a Cadillac ass.

I was contemplating on making my own food for him each week. It's probably a lot cheaper and healthier

Re: What do you recommend for Dry Dog Food?
I get the Taste of the Wild cat food - the felines dig it. It's a little more expensive, but I read all the ingredients on all the bags, and they seem to have the best.

The little dog eats Abound treats and can food - same way, their ingredients start with meat, mostly duck. Haven't checked out Abound's dried food because my dog is old and can't really eat hard foods these days.

Re: What do you recommend for Dry Dog Food?
have been feeding my german shepherds holistic select now for over 10 years.

1 cup of dry kibble + 8 to 10 ounces of warm water + any beef or chicken leftovers twice a day.

after you add the warm water let the bowl sit so the kibble absorbs and expands in the bowl and not in the dogs stomach

I cooked for the dog for awhile, freezing individual meals of chicken, rice, veggies, and useful oils, but he lost interest in those, and it was a lot of work. I'd do two weeks worth at a time, and it was a big production line.

Google the dog food nutrition spreadsheet.

The best foods are not advertised the most - that's for sure.

Re: What do you recommend for Dry Dog Food?
Eukanuba, breed specific if they make it for your dog. They make a product that will work well. This is what the dogsled teams use in Alaska.
 Quoting: 914

Yes, because Eukanuba sponsors some teams.

So does Science Diet - also one of the worst commercial foods. Only feed Science Diet if you want lumpy tumorous dogs who eat corn and chicken meal.

The dog food spreadsheet tells the tale of all available foods by nutrition content and first ingredients. I don't have the link handy.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 69360151

My Vet studied dog nutrition for her masters thesis. She lived in Alaska and worked with the teams. She said that Eukanuba was the highest quality and balanced blend. No, she doesn't sell food at her office. I have my English Lab on it. I'm sure that there are many fine brands of food.

Re: What do you recommend for Dry Dog Food?
Our dog is getting older and had low energy and trouble getting up the stairs.

The place we get her groomed said to change her diet to "Dog Lovers Gold".

After about a week she had more energy and no problem with the steps.

Healthy ingredients too!

10 lbs dark meat chicken
1 pack of chicken livers
2 head of cabbage
5 sweet potatoes
1/2 box of oatmeal

Should make about 20 lbs of good dog food.

I recommend you throw it in the bin or just dont buy it

any store bought pet food is toxic waste and should be considered nothing more than junk food
