Changing their business model amid the $15/HR minimum wage push.

Add the extra self check-out lanes with online grocery shopping and it's pretty clear they are angling to become employeeless distribution centers in the future.

I kind of like the self checkouts now that I've gotten used to them.

This will be happening at a lot of businesses. The rise in minimum wage is the driver for this.

I read that Lowe's is planning to introduce robots into their stores.

If you are not sure where to look for something, you ask the robot. It will then lead you to the aisle where the merchandise is at.

Interesting times we live in.

Ours did that and didn't lay anyone off.
Gives employees more time to stock and clean.
Nearly nobody uses the self checkouts here.

Re: Walmart about to layoff workers
$15.00 hr in my area is rather high wages.
It is the need for full time hours and some help with benefits.

It is very hard to juggle more than one part time job with the scheduling most jobs offer.
People just cannot pull that off in areas where there are few jobs available and they have to travel long distances to get to one.

It takes two or more people in their household working to make ends meet with the minimum wage and that requires multi vehicle expense on top of housing and possibly daycare.

I think there are areas where higher wages are appropriate for that areas cost of living.

One of my friends online with us right now is in Ronkonkoma and he gets 10.75hr and he says he cannot make it on that even though he works 60 week.
He said he could at 15.00hr if he kept his 60hrs a week.
He has worked there for over 2 years.

I could not support a lower wage for him because he is a single male and in a location with a much higher cost of living.
I would rather he move here where we are or be able to keep his own self up by having sustainable wages.

He is a good friend of my son and even I like him and his grandmother.
The most precious things are the simple things in life, always present in the simplest of minds.
