Eating out will become obsolete. Home cooking and dining with friends at home will replace restaurants.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 70651045

But I don't have any friends, I go out to eat just to be around others and to get a feeling of relevance. I am not joking.

Friends are over-rated.
Achievements are more important.

so that would make you......

hahahahah. I take that back, I do have friends, here in glp, were like a huge family of gifted and special people all competing for each others attention.

Eating out is a scam. They use the same ingredients you get in any supermarket & charge up to 8x the cost to make.

In the end you get what you pay for and most these restaurant owners only know how to scam people.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 53031283

Eating out and sitting down at a restaurant is not even worth it. The overpriced shitty food, the dirty tables, the tipping scam. I don't need my glass full of iced tea every five minutes and some person asking me how my meal is. Fuck it.

Takeout is at least somewhat viable as you walk out the door without worrying about tipping. I guess that's why pizza places and Chinese restaurants do fairly well.

A better minimum wage isn't the answer! A rebalancing of ALL things money related needs to be done. And this can't be done in just one country, it has to happen around the world for it to work.

Not entirely, a precious metal standard and competing currency system without fractional reserve banking would be a god start.

No pity for businesses that rely on slavery.

Why did the massive hikes in wages at manufacturing jobs not close any factories?

Why did the minimum wage fail to close any businesses in 1970?

Increases for inflation, (true inflation), of education, medicine, housing, energy, and food would have put the minimum wage at closer to $20.00 per hour today.

If you include increases in productivity, it should be closer to $30.00 or $40.00 per hour today.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 74684045

Oh, well we have ourselves an economic genius. While I do agree inflation is an issue answer me this, why not pay $100/hr minimum?

Hate to be a dick but if your only making it with a minimal profit and cant afford to treat your employees well. Then your business model was crap and needed to be replaced in the firat place.

People in 1975 were getting 15.00 an hour working at Sears warehouse. Their rent was 400.00 a month on a now 380,000.00 home.

They literally bought in at 20k and made a quarter million paying off the home in several years.

I can work two jobs beyond full time and I barely make the 2.00 daily bus fare by the weeks end-

Its too preposterous to continue to allow this. The inflation needs to be reduced as everyone in the nation is impacted by it.

If that means full on collapse of todays markets. If that is what it takes. So be it;

Erm no.
In Europe restaurant staff gets paid 3 times the amount of US staff and we still have restaurants, what will change is tipping.

More base salary = less tips.

Re: Hike in minimum wage prompts more closings of San Francisco restaurants
A better minimum wage is the only alternative.

It doesn't damage good businesses because it is a level playing field.

No business suffers any more than any other business, because they all must pay the wage.

The object for the business then becomes to hire the best employees.

There would be more unemployment, but people would sort it out the best way available. Women would stay home to raise and educate children, cook meals, clean house, etc., and men would be able to support them.

Bad employees would quickly be fired.

People would rise to the occasion, and the economy would go like a powerhouse.

Money would really trickle down to people who work, and it would be very difficult to maintain mansions, luxuries, and wealth.

Men without families would accumulate enough capital to make capitalism work through innovation and entrepreneurship.

That's the way it used to be.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 74684045

And what about the guy who makes double the minimum today? Suddenly tomorrow high school kids make more than him? Are you really that fucking stupid?

Walmart tells their new employees how to apply for welfare, because their wages are so low that they qualify for it.

That says all you need to know. Taxpayers are subsidizing the massive profits of multi-billion dollar corporations.

Minimum wage should be exactly what it was during our biggest economic boom HISTORICALLY, adjusted for inflation. And it should AUTOMATICALLY change each year to adjust for the latest inflation rates, so it's not insanely low (or high) for months or years or decades while our politicians argue whether or not it should change.

Walmart workers cost taxpayers $6.2 BILLION in welfare benefits because they aren't being paid a living wage.

If your solution to that is "cut welfare benefits," then either you ain't so good at math yourself, or you want the economy to collapse.

Huh?

The government should have high minimum wage laws to magically make everyone rich or have welfare and if there is no debt-fueled welfare then the economy will collapse?

Why not just have no minimum wage and no welfare and let the free market decide what prices should be?

How would you feel if you wanted to buy a $3 hamburger, but the government said hamburgers must cost at least $4?

How would you feel if you wanted to sell your home for $100,000, but the government said houses cannot be sold for over $80,000?

Do people have any responsibility for working for a low wage? If the minimum wage is $1 per hour and you accept it, who's fault is that?

If you want more money, work harder, learn a skill, or start a business. You cannot get wealth by decree.

Do you think raising the minimum wage will reduce prices?

As the state grows, one’s sense of self-ownership is destroyed, liberty is traded for "security," the human spirit diminishes, and the citizenry increasingly thinks and behaves like dependent children.
