I feel your right OP. AI and robots may go far, but to take over humanity would be pretty far-fetched.

Probably not with todays transistor technology. You cant build a creative mind out of ifs and thens. But who knows whats comming in the future? Could quantum computing do the job?

Singularity is a flawed theory.

You can't create consciousness simply by accumulating data.

However, you can potentially create a human/machine hybrid whose human part can be possessed by a spiritual entity that uses the accumulated data for whatever (usually malevolent) purposes.

But a machine being fed enough data until it starts babbling "mama" and "dada" on its own volition? Never gonna happen.

It's the human/machine hybrids that you have to watch out for.

In 50 years, technology will be so advanced that it would make no sense explaining it to you now because we are so primitive in our understanding of it. Just the fact that you are doubting how superior artificial intelligence is/will be, shows how little understanding of it you have.

And what makes you think that they haven't found a way to connect the machines/deterministic with a soul/spirit yet?

Our bodies are merely meat&bones machines, being deterministic for the most part with some parts being less deterministic on the macroscopic level, found mostly within the brain.
Those are the parts the soul uses to adjust behavior of our bodies and there is nothing to stop them from creating a similar machine with certain parts being quite undeterministic on the macroscopic level, allowing for some spirit/soul to connect and adjust its behavior.

It is just a matter of time until they get it right. Maybe they already have.
