33.65 m/s give or take depending on the catchers height and the balls mass.

Re: A softball is hit at a 30 degree angle traveling 100 meters before being caught. At what speed did it leave the bat?
45.0 m/s.

Vertical vi = 45 sin 30 = 22.5
horizontal u = 45 cos 30 which is constant

h = hi + vi t - 4.9 t^2

d = u t
100 = 45 cos 30 * t
so
t = (100/45)/cos 30

then
h = 1.3 + 22.5 t - 4.9 t^2

So the op was spot on that it is 33.6 m/s, now it's only the decimal significant figures that are up for debate. cruise

Yup, but I still say 5 and a half inches not 5.

Improbable question, not enough valid information given... We can apply several principals for several different correct answers.

You don't provide enough information. Its a poorly phrased question by someone with little grasp on basic physics. You cannot estimate speed from exit angle and distance traveled. You would have to know how quickky it arrived. There is also the complication of drag, which I am guessing you aren't considering.

And for those of you who are saying that the ball leaves at zero, you are even dumber than OP. The ball remains in contact with the bat for some fraction of a second during which time the bat exerts a force on the ball causing it to accelerate quickly. Once the ball is no longer touching the bat, it starts to slow down... not speed up.

Common people... this is not rocket science.

Looking at the answers, I misunderstood the question.

I think OP is referring to the ball used in a game called softball, not a light sponge ball.

I thought OP meant it was hit at 30 degrees to the left or right, but at the same height.

But I think Op meant 30 degree vertically, so it travelled in an arc.

T=2u sin(Angle)÷g should give the flight time ?

33.3 m/s ?

You are so close, that I'm just going to give it to you.

The softball has to leave the bat traveling at 33.6 meters per second / 75.16 miles per hour, in order to travel 100 meters at a 30 degree angle.

Congratulations.

Yes, I did cure my Stage 4 cancer in two weeks when I was 48. I also reversed my chronic kidney disease (glomerulonephritis) when I was 25. In neither case were any medical treatments involved.

Don't know the answer, but...A hundred meters! That would be a homerun. Quite the swat with a softball!

Seems like there is enough information to calculate it since the speed of gravity would be a determining factor.

Is the bat African or European?

Re: A softball is hit at a 30 degree angle traveling 100 meters before being caught. At what speed did it leave the bat?
Just as a closing statement

Distance = (Initial velocity^2/9.8m/s^2)*Sin(2*30 degrees)

plug in distance then solve for initial velocity

100m = (Initial velocity^2/9.8m/s^2)*.866
100m /.866 = (Initial velocity^2/9.8m/s^2)
115.473m = (Initial velocity^2/9.8m/s^2)
115.473m * 9.8m/s^2 = Initial velocity^2
1131.6354m^2/s^2 = Initial velocity^2
33.6397 = Initial velocity
