Anonymous Coward User ID: 74863080 United States 06/13/2017 09:28 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I shop the sales. When I see organic chicken/turkey/ground beef 50% off I always buy it and freeze it (it happens all the time since most people aren't looking for organic). Buy milks when they are on sale. A normal gallon of organic milk is 6 bucks. I wait til they're 2.99 or less and get a couple with far out exp. dates. Same with eggs, cheese, yogurts, etc. Regular grocery stores are more likely to have their organics on sale too since people are heading to Whole Foods instead. The grocery stores also have frozen and prepackaged organics (chips, soups, salsas, burritos, etc) so you don't have to make those things but st least you know the ingredients are sound. Also you can download apps and clip coupons if that's your thing. We save tons for our fam of 4 just in doing those things. You have to plan a bit but it's worth it. |

You won't gain weight eating a ton of veggies. Most people do that as a way to drop weight when necessary. Preserve some, freeze some, prepare & freeze, etc. By on sale & freeze milk and bread, yoghurt, butter, coconut oil, meats. Eat a lot of rice and beans, nuts, pastas and cheeses; add different spices, meats and veggies for many variations. It isn't hard to eat 4 avocados in a week if you like avocados... Maybe you're not utilizing the products well, and think you have to eat X amount of each food instead of focusing on being creative in the kitchen with healthy ingredients - ingredients which will vary from week to week according to what is available, on sale or abundant. Maybe you should enlist a knowledgeable female friend or relative in showing you how to shop without a rigid list, prepare & preserve your foods. You'd probably enjoy eating much more if you weren't so rigid. Get comfortable in your kitchen, man. Have fun with it. I always buy basmati rice and some beans in bulk for the best price per unit I can find. They last a year. Mung beans store in a jar but you can sprout them as a vegetable. Cheap clean vegetables without daily shopping. Buy the big bag of organic carrots and a case of freezer jars. Take a day to peel and chop carrots. Make coins and match sticks. If your knife is sharp its fun. Stack up your carrots in the freezer. You always have them to drop into soup or cook. Buy a big bag of American apples in season. Shop and freeze a few for soup or cooked dishes. Buy the big box of baby spinach and the big bag of kale for the freezer. You can easily grow salad greens and radishes in spring and autumn, even in big pots. Wheatgrass too. Pickled and fermented things in jars are clean. Read labels. Pickled beets are nice to have on hand. Maybe you can freeze peeled bananas and run them through a blender. Or just buy one banana at a time. |

You have to keep replacing it over and over which gets expensive. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 73142564 Things like avocados, i can't buy that in bulk because by the 5th day of the week they have gone bad so i have to keep going out day by day and buying this stuff. Same with other fresh fruit and vegetables. Buying bananas in bulk is no good because they have gone black by the end of the week and i am not going to eat 4 bananas a day. A jar of almond butter is so small that it only lasts me maybe 4 days. If i buy 2 jars it costs like 15 dollars! Same thing with natural peanut butter or coconut oil. Almond milk the same. The amount of almond milk required for a low carb bodybuilding diet means i would have to buy an entire crate of the stuff to last a couple of weeks which again is very expensive. How do you buy enough of this stuff to make it last you without keep going out and replacing it all the time? -Buy guacamole. It keeps longer. -Fruit and veggies should last a week....if you didn't eat them by then, you are buying too much. -Peanut butter keeps for WEEKS unless you are storing it in the oven at 150F+. - A handful of almonds is all you need per day. Buy a bag. It's not that complicated. |
