I am planning one week real fast, then the second week including juice, nuts, those things mentioned earlier... the third week is more about easing into a new diet / lifestyle rather than a third week of fasting, maybe that is the purpose of the whole thing, to ease into a new way of life which is not a loop of destroying the body. I still have to work though, however I wish I could spend a lot of it outdoors on a walk |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 336716 United States 02/17/2008 02:28 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The human body is designed for fasting, just like ever other animal species on this planet. When we begin a fast, the body quickly adapts and goes into "fasting mode". Now it is very important that you research and understand how to correctly go about a fast and how to safely break a fast. Do not begin a fast without research and a clear understanding of what you are doing. There is nothing more beneficial and healthy than a fast. Modern society has forgotten the power of fasting, but in past centuries fasting was a part of life; and it still is in many cultures. If you fast correctly, nothing but pure water, your digestive system will naturally shut down. You will not be hungry at all after the second day. The energy that your body previously used to digest food and expel waste, is used to repair your body from the inside - it is a very powerful cure to many illnesses and diseases! WARNING: If you go on a water only fast for 7 days or more, you must break the fast slowly and gently. If you immediately have a large meal you could shock your system, and it can be very serious... even fatal. However, if you gradually go from soft, easily digestible food and very small meals and increase them little by little for the first couple days, recovery from a fast is completely safe. Fasting on fruit or soup is not a true fast and is basically useless except for the weight you will lose; but you will of course gain it right back when you end the DIET. Eating soup and fruit, or fruit juices, your digestive system will remain active and will not enter "fasting mode". This means you WILL BE HUNGRY and your body will not enter the vital repair process that true fasting is meant to do. "Fasting" on juice, soup, and fruit is nothing more than a crash diet. It is unhealthy and the weight loss will only be temporary. There is a lot of good and valuable information on the internet about fasting. Research and learn all you can. I fast on water only for 15 days every 6 months. It feels incredible and the benefits are too numerous to list. All I can say is that the sacrifice is more than worth it; and remember, during a water fast you WILL NOT BE HUNGRY, so the sacrifice is minimal beyond the psychological temptations. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 336716 United States 02/17/2008 02:38 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Eat plenty of apples and nuts when you fast. It makes it a lot easier. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 335123No. This keeps your digestive system awake and keeps you hungry. If you go two days on water only, your digestive system will begin to hibernate and you will not be hungry. During this time your body will begin to break down damaged cells and begin healing you from inside. It is common to be nauseous and feel a little sick around the fourth or fifth day of a water fast. Do not be scared, this happens when your body is breaking down cells that contain poisons that we have consumed in our water, food, and air. These poisons, including concentrated DDT, are released into the blood stream, and until they are transferred out of your body you might feel sick... but this is a good thing because your system is getting the poisons out of your body! When you are on a water fast, you will notice you actually have more energy! This is because your body is not using energy to digest and process food; instead it is breaking down fat and using the stored energy to fuel the system repair process. It is an amazing feeling! However, be warned that your stamina will be low because you are running off fat cell energy and your body breaks it down as needed. So don't run any marathons while on a fast and everything will be great. |

After you start that stuff its hard to go make to normal....so dont even try. Just eat properly and lay off the junk food. |

Okay, so what if I did the water only fast for seven days, and during the second week, I take vitamins, juice and soups, and by the third week it's basically the new lifestyle of organic and healthly foods, and by the end of the third week beginning at regular calorie intake? Is that a good plan?? |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 349259 United States 02/17/2008 11:18 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | that's an excellent plan IMO. but take the advice of the person you quoted here and research it some. a week of no food and only water/herbal tea will you do you wonders. another thing you may want to try is not speaking at all for at least 3 days during the fast. sounds kinda weird but if you can....try it out. i won't try to fully explain the benefits of it....but it acts as a sort of "fast on your thoughts". purification of the mind if you will. the other poster taking you seriously is giving you a great testimony IMO. the true benefits of fasting are really only understood by those who actually do fasts. it's more than just a physical benefit. when you consider that digesting food is the number 1 energy consuming task your body performs....you may begin to appreciate the benefits of shutting down the digestive system so it can rest and repair. but, as has been posted, if you eat ANYTHING the system will stay active. if you chew anything it will stay active. |

Denying the body, at first, will be very difficult. Once you get past the initial rebellion of your physical self, your spiritual self takes over. Be careful what you are tapping into during this time. I suggest heavy duty prayers for protection before starting. |

Anka User ID: 361818 United States 02/17/2008 11:48 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | If you don't REALLY know what you're doing, perhaps a week-long fast would be plenty to start. Then fast maybe three days a month every month. Do you have a tendency for low blood sugar? If so, you might want to re-think this drastic fast. Don't think of fasting as some sort of punishment or atonement for past abuses, it's simply a natural way for your body to eliminate toxins, many of which you shouldn't have taken in in the first place. Fasting is actually kind of fun, I love the way I feel by the third day. However, fasting in wintertime is VERY stressful. A three-day water fast in the dead of winter is PLENTY. Even that may not be a good idea in really cold weather. I always drink LOTS of water during a fast. This particular sun-charged water will really have an effect. (I'm Lorae Ireland) [link to unveiling.18.forumer.com] I end a three-day or week-long fast by eating some organic coleslaw with chopped organic apples - this finishes the housecleaning... Stay away from meats and fats for a few days, give your body a break. If you really want a "trip", go to an isolated high mountain place for your fast, a Vision Quest. This is a good thing to do for the Spring or Fall Equinox or Summer Solstice. It is a type of lemonaid that you drink during a fast. Fasting during the winter is very hard. It is better done in warmer weather. Going on a low carb diet prior to a fast can help make it more comfortable, so three days on the fast try not to have bread and starchy foods. Eat mainly lean protein and salads or non starchy veggies. I think I would not fast more than 7 days, maybe even 3 days would be enough. Now you do have to be careful comming off the fast...no concentrated foods. Eat only fresh fruits and vegtables for the most part, then phase in other healthy foods. Be kind to yourself, and don't take on too much stress. I wish you great success!! Short fast a few times a year may be better than a long three week fast. Good luck!! |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 290624But I am wondering what I can expect from this, will I feel health benefits? I am doing so both for the health of myself and to atone to how I've treated my body in the past, as I'm giving up some bad vices. I want to respect my body and develop my spirit. Does anyone have any advice / tips?? Whatever you do, when you are coming back onto food, do it slow cause your digestive system will be shut down. Try with juices first, both fruit and veggie.. sloowly.. I've dreamt so long.. I cannot dream anymore.. |

Mach Schnell User ID: 375258 Ireland 02/17/2008 07:15 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Take some advice from a veteran faster. If you've NEVER fasted before, why not ease into it to get yourself acclimated. Don't start with a 3-week fast, for crying out loud. You have to have the right mental attitude also. You have to see it as a beneficial and joyous experience, not as a period of torture and discomfort. Try this. Just do a ONE-DAY fast of water or juice/water. Just to see that you can survive a day without food. Wait a week and do two days. Wait another few weeks and do three days. On a 3-day you will probably feel rough the first day. I do three-day fasts several four times a year and once you do enough of them you sail right through them, it's blissful. The more you do, the less you have to deal with feeling rough. When I do the 3-days, I target an organ/gland of elimination, such as colon, kidneys or liver, with herb teas and herbal supplements designed to detox that organ. Look up Dr. Richard Schulze at American Botanical Pharmacy for more insight into doing this. The 3-days fasts are framed by a day of only raw foods, i.e. the day before you begin 3 days of liquids, and the day after, you have only raw food like salads, fruit, etc.. Also, drink tons of liquid. When I do the three day, I carry a gallon of unfiltered organic apple juice and a gallon of filtered water, and alternate an 8-oz. glass of each EVERY HALF HOUR. I'm never hungry this way. It helps that I'm self-employed and can make time to really do it right. If you're going to do it, make sure you schedule it so there are no interferences. Sometimes I make carrot juice for myself all day. Schulze also shows how to make a healing/nourishing mineral broth which you can drink while doing a fast. You may also want to include deep breathing, stretching, yoga, meditation, introspection, hot soaking baths, etc. Go to a massage therapist for a LYMPHATIC massage, get the lymph moving which is another elimination system of the body. After you have a bunch of 3-day fasts under your belt, then try a week long fast. Then wait a few months and do a 2-week. Then wait and eventually do your three-week fast. Be smart about this. You're not out to torture yourself. Fasting should be a LIFE-LONG procedure. So start out slowly and build up to a 3-week. Longest one I've done is 10 days by the way, never felt the need to do a longer one.... |
