Where'd he been for past 40 years?

My time with Gordie Lightfoot started when I was 14 and a caddie at a golf course in Hamilton and the assistant pro was going to see him at the Riverboat in Toronto. I had already purchased his second album and listened to it non stop. I finally got to see him live in 1969 at MacMaster University in Hamilton in the gymnasium. It was an awesome concert and where I first heard "Ballad of Yarmouth Castle".

The last couple of days have been rough as I reflect on where I was and what I was doing through each stage of his career. I had recently saw an interview he did on the death of Ian Tyson and deep down I feared he would be gone soon. I remember driving through the seediest parts of Detroit in 1969 blaring Black Day in July on our tape deck.

I agree with most that his music will live on forever. It is timeless and will be enjoyed by many future generations.

R.I.P Gordon. I like so many will miss you and your music and simply your presence.

Feel so sorry for the musicians, that keep on working into their sunset years, and people think they're driven.

No thats not it, its a cross roads contract, some are offed, what John Lennon called the walrus, the sacrifice. Others they keep on working and producing because thats the deal, you can't stop, you work frail and old and bent out of shape to avoid being offed by them.

So they live in terror.
