Moon-Antares: Tonight 16-17June
Good day.

There will be a close approach (appulse) of the nearly full Moon and the bright 1st magnitude star Antares tonight. They will be visible close-by for as long as they are above the horizon.
For those in SA there will be an occultation. vis-

After sunset look roughly SE to find the Moon. The bright star close-by is Antares. They will stay close together until they set.

Have fun.

You're welcome.

I would never reveal NtK information, however.

Have fun.

I do not know without seeing it. A cold front coming through perhaps?

Infobump.

It looks to be just as predicted.
Have a view if you've clear skies. Binoculars are helpful.

Oh, by the way, the Moon is *exactly* where it should be.
QED.

Have fun.

Well you sound like you know more than I do
( I just love looking at the sky),
It has cleared the trees, and I can get an awesome view now.Is it supposed to look like a planet? With like a dust belt?
At any rate thanks at least I know what I'm looking at.
It is awesome with the barlow lens>

Yes, Jupiter is supposed to look like a planet. It's about 40° eastward from the Moon and lower to the horizon. Depending on the quality of your scope you should see the main atmospheric bands of yellow/orange. Strung out to the right you may be able to make out the 4 classical moons of Jupiter - Io, Callisto, Europa, and Ganymede.

Use only enough power to maintain a *clear* view. An high magnification blur is not as useful as a lower magnification sharp image.

Have fun.
