I panned enough gold to send out to the jeweler to make my gold nugget wedding band. North Carolina is the nearest workable mineral location, with Ga Al and Tn having some gems and TINY bit of gold. Ive found substantial amounts of Garnet in NC, but you need buckets of it to be worth anything, and have a 45 Carat Sapphire from western NC on my shelf. There are verified Emerald deposits present in several NC locations. If you honestly want gold, Colorado is probably the closest youll find it. There are people who make a small living out of panning downstream from some of the still operating hard rock mines. Canada and Alaska are the only places you might still do well panning on a large scale. Much of the placer gold there still hasnt been located or recovered. There are actual pay to pan location in California that can net you 200-300$ for a few days work, but thats hardly career level earnings. You fail basic logic and problem solving skills. The gold in all of these nuggets and specimens is in the same forms the gold had when it was dug from the ground, but some of the gold quartz specimen pieces have had the quartz material around the gold is removed so you can see the gold that was inside better. On the nugget pieces, these gold pieces are just as they came out of the ground, only washed with water, that's it. Do be careful about staring too long and hard at these photos. That kind of thing has been known to give a person a terrible case of gold fever. If you contract a case of gold fever here, don't say you weren't warned! Alternatively, I would recommend using a sluice box extract your concentrates first. With either method, panning should be the last action in the process. BTW - have you practiced your panning technique? If not, I would highly recommend that you use some lead shot or split lead fishing weights in some concentrates and practice with these to ensure you are keeping your pay in the pan. |

No one can make serious money with a pan You need dredges, a sluice box or two and a good reliable source of placer deposit. You would aso need some heavy earth moving kit and getting permits, claim staking and all the rest can set you back a good whack before you even see a fleck of yellow. Gold has lost more fortunes than were ever won from it but panning is a fun thing to do as a hobby and with luck and patience you can get enough for a ring or other jewlry. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 332338You are so wrong man. Hell, the original "gold rush" was in Georgia. The only reason it was never really acted on was due to the "rush" in Cali. There are plenty of places to prospect in the East. Read all you on the specific area in which you are going to "prospect". If you want to ,,, you can pm me and I will help you get going in the right direction.. Each time a person stands for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice, he or she sends forth a tiny ripple of hope. And crossing each other from a million different centers of energy and daring, those ripples build a current that can sweep down the mightiest walls of oppression and resistance. Few are willing to embrace the disapproval of their fellows, the censure of their colleagues, the wrath of their society. Moral courage is a rarer commodity than bravery in battle or great intelligence. Yet it is the one essential vital quality for those who seek to change a world that yields most painfully to change.
