Quoting: Anonymous Coward 272605I'd love to throw in Black Magic Woman, but I wanted to keep it at "top five". If I had made "top ten", you can bet your ass Santana would be in there. :) Last Edited by The One Free Man on 07/07/2009 08:16 PM "It is a universal truth that the loss of liberty at home is to be charged to the provisions against danger, real or pretended, from abroad." - James Madison "I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them." - Thomas Jefferson “Our contest is not only whether we ourselves shall be free, but whether there shall be left to mankind an asylum on earth for civil and religious liberty” - Samuel Adams |

Marcel Coenen - Inner Alchemy [link to www.youtube.com] Land of the Fee, Home of the Slave ..but I'm still right here, giving blood, keeping faith, and I'm still right here. If at first you dont succeed...just keep suckin' Even if you lock me up & throw away the key, my face can still breakout! |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 576572It's all a matter of opinion... and I can't satisfy everyone's tastes. Hotel California is great, don't get me wrong... but it's not one of my personal "favorites". Yes, as through this world I've wandered I've seen lots of funny men; Some will rob you with a six-gun, And some with a fountain pen. And as through your life you travel, Yes, as through your life you roam, You won't never see an outlaw Drive a family from their home. |

Why bother? (OP) User ID: 669509 United States 07/07/2009 08:51 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Ever since the AC brought up Santana... I can't not post Black Magic Woman. Here's the unofficial "sixth" in the Top Five: 6. Black Magic Woman - Santana Absolutely gorgeous... superior to the Peter Green version in every way. EDIT: I thought the audio in the other video was a bit crummy... I've replaced it with a louder and more clear-sounding video. Why bother? (OP) User ID: 669509 United States 07/07/2009 09:10 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Hey hang on here a minute - that's not Deep Purple! Quoting: Anonymous Coward 711365Dream Theater are an excellent band, but your putting across the wrong impression OP to people who have never even heard Deep Purple let alone Richie Blackmore. As I stated, no decent Deep Purple videos of the song seem to exist on YouTube. There are several sloppy live versions, versions with their current guitarist Steve Morse (who I despise) and a badly mastered studio version, but nothing that would grip your attention. If you must have it, here is the studio version of the song, (though it is poorly mastered): "It is a universal truth that the loss of liberty at home is to be charged to the provisions against danger, real or pretended, from abroad." - James Madison "I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them." - Thomas Jefferson “Our contest is not only whether we ourselves shall be free, but whether there shall be left to mankind an asylum on earth for civil and religious liberty” - Samuel Adams |

You're right, there's not a great lot of content for early Deep Purple it seems. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 711365Very true... unfortunately. The Made in Japan live version is absolutely spectacular, but I can't find it on YouTube anywhere. It's likely that the copyright Nazis are preventing it from being uploaded. There's a video on YouTube that claims to be the Made in Japan version, but is actually a recording from an entirely different concert. I happened upon the Dream Theater version... and I thought they managed to perfectly capture the look, feel and sound of Deep Purple and the song so well, I just posted it instead.
