It all has to be DEFUNDED and REPEALED in 2010 / 2012. :rushbam: :rushbam: I want to throw a couple punches in there too. Nice avatar pic by the way. We need a different change |

If you're leaving the 3rd one without a bulb, I don't know but there might be energy escaping through that open end. Quoting: me 748373If you have a dead bulb in the 3rd socket, it makes the other 2 bulbs work harder, don't know if that would matter though. Some power companies will have a person come out and do an 'energy audit' for free. they hold a thermometer under the hot running water to see how hot the water gets, hold a bic lighter around doors and windows to see if you're loosing energy there and stuff like that. You can call your power company and see if they offer that service. |

Everyone went out and bought them and now they are complaining. They average about 30% more than CRT televisions. Don't argue with me on this one. Do research before you call my bluff. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1039672I'm sure the power rates did go up. I'm also 100% sure that if your bought an LCD or multiple LCDs then that is the real reason for the majority of the increase. And if you bought a plasma you are fucked. Some 42 inch plasmas pull 400 watts. A 42 inch projection uses about 80 watts. The average 42 inch LCD LCD pulls about 170 watts. Ever stood next to and LCD or plasma. You can just feel the heat coming off of them. Thats wasted energy. Then you have to pay again to get that heat out of your house by running the AC for longer. My best friend went out and replaced 3 of his televisions with LCD and his power bill went from 350 to 750. Thats not a joke. It put him into a higher pay bracket. Dont forget the big difference between LCD an LED TV's |

This method saves you thousands! Only works if you have a meter with a wheel in it - you get a tiny drill..tiniest drillbit you can find...drill a hole in the SIDE of the meter, then get a piece of thin wire , looped one end as a 'handle' (so the wire doesnt accidently slip all the way in)...push the wire in so it sits ontop of the wheel and jams it STILL! If your meter is in the house you're laughing...before a reading just slip out the pin...if you get people call round to read your meter..(put a sticker over the hole if visible) ..if it's outside in a box...risks of the pin being found are higher so either 'gate-in'the meter if possible or just use the 'pin' at night! hahaa :-) |

They are cheating me big time and deliberately. The cabin is 900 square feet. I have a 15 gallon water heater, a 1/2 hp pump one refrigerator lights and a small tv and computer used once in a while. I work out of state 3 days a week flea marketing i turn everything off at the circuit breakers when i am gone except for the refrigerator. my bill is over a l00 dollars a month. people with families and washer dryer freezer heat a/c etc are paying not much more. I have talked to these people and they are ignorant refusing to even discuss the matter they recently changed the meters (again) this time to digital so they can read them from the office. I tried to get help from rural electrification in raleigh this man name of elkins is also ignorant and refuses to discuss the matter intelligently. I am a senior and I now have a 389 dollar bill even thoough i paid through october and turned off the power december 4/10 they just sent me another bill for 40.27 even though the readings show the same for the previous month. The man at blue ridge, aikina, hung up on me would not discuss it. I don't know where to go to resolve this. I think it is a vendetta I have had problems with them since buying the cabin first there were wires over the house they refused to remove and made me pay to have them removed. They flooded a cabin I own across the road by turning the power on when it was winterized they have butchered my trees and the meter is rigged I jknow. Elkins in Raleigh told me the old meters were running too slow so they had to change them adding they could go back and charge you the difference yet my meter was tested in this period and they said it was ok any suggestions would be appreciated ruth nelson |

Can't you still get shocked sticking your fingers up into an empty socket while the fixture is on? It may not be escaping into the room, as it were, but the wires in there could still be 'hot,' especially in those older fixtures. There's always at least one relative to dupe us into checking 'why a light won't go on' and then, ZAP! until we learn to disbelieve them when they say it's turned off. What a good thread! Glad to see it still up. I wonder if the dope dealers are going to branch off into incandescent light bulbs next. I'm just glad, though I know I shouldn't be, that most sheeple haven't thought of stocking up on those yet so there are still some to buy. We knew someone who did that to mask a grow op. When they finally caught him, they WAY overestimated the length of time which the meter had been altered, and charged him for all that time at the current rate plus penalties and interest, etc. The power companies are worse than the cops!! Nowadays we all have these digital meters, and you can't mess with them - no wheels to slow down or anything. Cable Boxes Consume 'Startling' Amount Of Electricity What's the biggest energy hog in your home? Your refrigerator? Your microwave? Not even close, says the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC). In a report, NRDC says the cable TV set-top box, present in about 80 percent of U.S. homes, consumed approximately 27 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity in 2010. That's equivalent to the annual output of nine average coal-fired power plants. If you get your television signals from a cable, satellite or telephone company, you probably have a set-top box. There are about 160 million of them in use in the U.S., according to NRDC and its partner, Ecos. Rest of story... [link to www.consumeraffairs.com] |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1050219 Though it sounds to me you either have a faulty meter or a faulty appliance. Unfortunately no, wherever you live you are subject to the whims of whichever power company rules the area. The power companies themselves trade electricity back and forth across state lines, so if there is a huge power spike in one area electricity can be sent to cover it, but the individual rate-payers are stuck with whatever their "local" company charges. And it doesn't do any good to move either; thanks to computers they can track you even across state lines and your old company will then bill you for any electricity you may have "neglected" to pay before you left.
