Read up on it, TTown. There are threads all over GLP explaining why so many of us are against it. It doesn't mean we want poor people to be sick. Many of us want health reform, but for a multitude of reasons refuse to support the specific plan Obama has come up with.

Medicare is broke because socalled "disabled" mooches are hamming it up and collecting benefits intended for old age.

It will fall on the middle class to fund this government expansion, we already pay for food, shelter and of all things cell phones for the poor, now we are poor and can't get the benefits that we pay for. Government will not solve the health care crisis because they created it. Once they get started they will never be able to be stopped....NEVER.

Let me keep my already small paycheck (BTW I pay TWICE the amount for Social Security as I do for taxes) and I will fend for myself. All government will do is price the middle class out of the health care they are providing for everyone else.

Medicare is a disaster. Do you realiize that medicare will pay for your first three months of life saving perscriptions. That is it! Then you, living on social sercurity have to pay for the next nine months. Today these prescriptions could add up to thousands a month.
Medicare is a government project. It has failed. I suspect that any other government health care program is destined for failure.

It is simple. Do the math. Too many people, not enough revenue. So increase taxes on the rich, more unemployment. Increase taxes on the middle class. More defaults.
Do the dirty and increase taxes on the poor. More people on wellfare, and in homeless shelters.

The only way out is for the government to do what it is supposed to do. Protect the homeland, and protect the constitution.

Once that starts happening free trade will develope again in the US and people will have jobs.

Even illegal aliens are not denied essential, free emergency care when they need it. The middle class in general and union members specificially enjoy the best health care in the world, funded by private health insurance companies. Are there problems in the present system that need addressing? You betcha. Frivolous lawsuits brought by predatory lawyers (hear of John Edwards?) have driven many doctors and hospitals out of business. Medicare itself is rife with fraud. And insurance company policies that exclude people with pre-existing conditions are unfair although expected for companies whose goal is to return a profit to its shareholders. Worse yet, only a few insurance companies are allowed to operate in each state, thus greatly reducing competition. This is an outrageous restraint on trade and an example of how insurance companies have conspired with and paid off corrupt state governments. HOWEVER These problems can be dealt with without turning the country into an egalitarian gulag where only the privileged few will have access to excellent health care...and I have a feeling that's not going to be you or me. And the reason insurance is so expensive now is because Medicare and Medicaide do not pay enough and the difference has to be added to the charges of patients with insurance.

The government being in those two programs alone is what has messed up the system in the first place.

But to OP's original question, no the protest was about out of control spending and the consequences to our future from all this debt.

What bothers me is, what will be the availability of diagnostic equipment? "Socialized medicine" doesn't have money for the best health care.

At this point, EVERY nation in the world is behind the U.S. in the use of CT, MRI scanners.
