It doesn't always happen due to rape, but it takes trauma for a split-mind or alter-egos to develop. Those who can't handle the trauma of being raped, their mind will allow the conscious to exit their body (literally), they will have an OBE, or astral projection. When they are out of their body they become observers of what's going on, but often aren't aware of the body laying there being theirs, and can be easily influenced by someone in the room, as they have no awareness of what's going on, as their consciousness isn't in the body.

With Mind control, alter-egos are programmed into subjects by inducing trauma within the person so their mind reaches the breaking point. During this the subjects consciousness leaves their body, and their minds can easily be toyed with.
