Cop Went Wild With Taser, Diabetic Says

(CN) - A suburban Chicago police officer Tasered a man 11 times while he was having a diabetic seizure, and the 56 seconds of needlessly inflicted electric shock, "inflicted ... while he was lying unresponsive on the floor of his bedroom, permanently scarred [him] and caused him neurological damage that has not abated," the man claims in Chicago Federal Court.
Prospero Lassi says he suffered a diabetes-induced seizure at home on April 9. His roommate called 911, and police from LaGrange Park and Brookfield responded, with EMTs from LaGrange Park.
Lassi says his roommate explained to police that he was having a diabetic seizure. Lassi "was not alert and could not move his body."
When the EMTs asked the cops to help them move Lassi from where he was lying on the floor, Lassi says, one of his "arms flailed during his diabetes-induced seizure, striking one of the LaGrange and Brookfield defendants. At no time did Mr. Lassi intentionally strike or offensively touch any of the LaGrange or Brookfield defendants."
Lassi says LaGrange Park Officer Darren Pedota responded by Tasering him 11 times, for nearly a minute, as he lay helpless.
He was hospitalized for 5 days, and was unable to work for 3 months because of the attack, "and his quality of life has suffered substantially," Lassi says.
"At no time did Mr. Lassi do anything to warrant the use of force against him. Mr. Lassi was never cited, arrested, or charged with any crime," according to the complaint.
He seeks punitive damages for battery, excessive force, and failure to intervene. He is represented by Arthur Loevy of Loevy & Loevy

Funny story, actually...
Last week I got pulled over in my hometown as I was visiting my family. I stopped in front of my house (because I just fucking got there), and stepped outside the car, because I had this zany thought that I could talk to a police officer like a human being. I guess that's not how it works.
So I get out and wave and say "Hey, what's up? Do I have a tail light out?" (which was actually the problem) and the bitch cop's immediate response is to start shrieking "PUT YOUR HANDS ON YOUR HEAD GET ON THE GROUND I HAVE A TAZER", and aims the tazer at me. I say "No, I don't really feel like doing that right now. Here, look. These are my hands. There is nothing in them. I'm not going to hurt you." So then the bitch cop's partner gets out, and his line is "HAVE YOU EVER HAD YOUR ASS KICKED BEFORE?!?"
Right, so this "peace officer" pig, instead of asking me to get back in the car, or maybe just even talking to me about the fact the brake light is out, or anything even remotely peaceful, yells some retarded action movie line at me, grabs me, and slams my head into the ground.
Then they cuff me, shove me against my car, and at that point there's about 8 squad cars there, and some other pig fucker says to me as I'm against the car "Ooh, you gonna cry now? You gonna cry like a little bitch?" So I look him in the eyes, and apparently that scares the shit out of him, so he pulls the hood of my jacket over my face so I can't see him. Of course at this point I had been yelling all kinds of shit at them, so they stuff me in the back of one of the cars and took me to the hospital. Then I got to sit in jail for 6 hours for "resisting arrest".

It was definitely a reality check for me. Granted, it was not the smartest thing I ever did, getting out of my car to talk to a cop. However, this was the only thing that I did.
I had nothing illegal in my car, and I did not threaten the cops in any manner. This is just how cops respond to a young person who acts without blind fear of authority.

So next time I stand up to a pig, I'll plan on shooting them in the head.
