In a free state should the government government be able to tell people what they can wear? Dicey issue really, you know how big brother is, give him an inch and he'll take a mile. I don't support the Muslims, but I am afraid of giving government any powers at all. Hmmm... I suppose as a Libertarian I would have to vote against it if it ever came up in my own country. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 872835Heard of self-preservation? Yeah, I get that. It's a tough call, maybe they should have approached it from a security standpoint, like underneath the tent you can't tell who that person is and it could be anyone with any intentions or something. But to just support straight out that the government can come in and tell any one minority that they can't wear a certain thing... I just don't know about that. Today it's habibi, but tomorrow it might be my kids rock concert tee shirt or a nuns penguin suit or a preists collar or a Rabbi's curly-Q's or something. Once you give the government any type of crack they just blast the thing wide open and it comes back to bite you in a thousand different ways that you never thought about later. Who knows. |

[link to news.bbc.co.uk] The burka and other face-covering veils worn by Muslim women should be banned, the UK Independence Party says. Ex-UKIP leader Nigel Farage, who leads UKIP's 13 MEPs in Brussels, told the BBC's Politics Show they were a symbol of an "increasingly divided Britain". He also said they "oppressed" women and were a potential security threat. But Schools Secretary Ed Balls said it was "not British" to tell people what to wear in the street, and accused UKIP of indulging in "unpleasant politics". Some European countries, including France, are debating banning the burka, but the issue has sparked controversy when it has been raised in the UK. UKIP is the first British party to call for a total ban, after the BNP called for it to be banned in Britain's schools. Last Edited by Kaosofik Gnostik on 01/27/2010 02:04 AM Tat Tvam Asi |

It would create some much-needed unity. 'When Plunder becomes a way of life for a group of men, they create for themselves, in the course of time, a legal system that authorizes it and a moral code that glorifies it.' Frederic Bastiat, 'The Law' 1850 ++++++++++++++++++++++++++ "The business of the journalists is to destroy the truth, to lie outright, to pervert, to vilify, to fawn at the feet of mammon, and to sell his country and his race for his daily bread. You know it and I know it, and what folly is this toasting an independent press? We are the tools and vassals of rich men behind the scenes. We are the jumping jacks, they pull the strings and we dance. Our talents, our possibilities and our lives are all the property of other men. We are intellectual prostitutes." JohnSwinton, 1830-1901, Former chief-of-staff New York Times ++++++++++++++++++++++++++ "The bold effort the present bank has made to control the Government, the distress it has wantonly produced ... are but premonitions of the fate that awaits the American People should they be deluded into a perpetuation of this institution (The Bank of the United States), or the establishment of another like it." Bullshit. It started out as a migration of young men posing as working immigrants, but the mass migration was both encouraged by muslim doctrine and clerics, and partially forced upon us under threat of oil-embargos. And as soon as they became aware and educated about our wellfare systems, the tsunami of village idiots arriwed through the foothold gained by the first "workers". To divide something means that it was unified. The Muslim population has NEVER been unified with the REAL French. Well, this issue has driven a deep wedge into the previously rather homogenous indigenous people of many European countries, mainly along the lines of the traditional left/right political axis. And "divide and conquer" tactics are closely and intimately bound to the tactics of "order through chaos". Both age old and well-proven elitistic means for holding onto power and isolate themselves from blame for their abuse of the people. But signs of the time point to an unraveling, and personally I'm hoping to see a French style good old peoples revolution with lots of head-rolling soon. Literally. |
