Always thought that this released energy was there before as POTENTIAL energy. So nothing really "escapes" the system.

But I might be wrong...

Another funny thing to ponder about modern physics and thermodynamics since we are at it. It is said that the entropy of a system (the Universe?) is always increasing:

"In a system, a process that occurs will tend to increase the total entropy of the universe."

Reminder about Entropy: Entropy is a macroscopic property of a system that is a measure of the microscopic disorder within the system.



Well, I don't know about you, but I see one force always opposing to the general increase of entropy of a system. Yup, it's called LIFE. So is the second law of thermodynamics wrong? If you consider that physics should not take LIFE into account, then no. But is our Universe lifeless?

A "closed system" is a terminology that has been made up by physicist. They want to describe a system that has no interaction between its content and the world outside the system. Nothing can escape a closed system. If heat is generated within the system which radiates out, it is not a closed system. It is semantics, a word, we give it meaning.

In real life and inside the closed system, no energy can be destroyed or created, according to the current theories. But it could be wrong. It could be that our universe acts as a closed system but actually is not closed when looking at the nano scale. It seems possible to disturb the flow of time on the nano scale. Which then self repairs using energy we currently have no idea where to classify its origins.
