Re: A Large Safe and an Oxygen Tank
If your more than just a few feet under water, you're f-ed. The pressure will hold your down rock solid shut.

If you manage a way to open it, and are beyong a couple atmopheres pressure, it will severly damage/kill you.

Solution: Make a bigger bug out kit.

Daahhh, a bug out kit is not going to protect you from the tsunami. You are just jealous you didn't come up with the safe idea.

lolz...actually i have thought about it...only it was gong to be the refrigerator after I threw all the food/shelves out....not much of a plan I know....more of one of those....hey....that could work. chuckle

Re: A Large Safe and an Oxygen Tank
you do realize you can't open a safe under water right?

and the water pressure if you manage to get the door open a tiny crack it will only make water spray in to your little cube but still keep it shut.

You will have to wait till it is filled up completely in order to be able to open it, at which point you have most likely drowned.

have fun.

I then will slowly let the water sink in, neutralize the pressure, swim up and out with my food, water, and raft.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 667950

You'll want to wait for quite a while....tsunami waves come in sets.

Perhaps leave a couple feet above ground level to keep the mud/debris from settling on you...

Oxygen becomes TOXIC after 1 atmosphere (33 ft.). You would need a combo of oxygen AND nitrogen. 20% and 80% ratio.

Before you go in, be sure to scrawl the combination of the safe on the outside wall so they can retrieve your body. Time of entry and date might be fun as well.

I am modifying a large safe to be a sort of pod... LOL

If you can fabricate, you may want to build a support structure that will GUARUNTEE you can get the door open for yourself and supplies to get out...2-3 feet

So that nothing can block it...tsunami's are a malestrom of debris....

I am modifying a large safe to be a sort of pod that I will be able to survive in when 2012 comes and there are mile high tsunamis. As this massive wave approaches I will lock myself in my padded safe where there are 2 oxygen tanks, food and water. After the massive tsunami hits, I will safely swim up with my inflatable raft and search for dry land.

You can have plenty of oxygen and still die of carbon monoxide poisoning.
You need a scrubber.
