If our consciousness is immortal, then so are we
That may be quite a heavy realization to absorb all at once, but that does not make it less valid. The reality is that all the layers of our being and existence change in time except the I-consciousness element.

You can understand the paradox of your notion with this 5 points of mine:


1) Nothing exists unless it materializes. For example love exists between two people or groups because it materializes. Two people could think that they love each other yet if love is not manifested in their relationship it's just an illusion.

2) Practically any kind of higher consiousness needs a finite number of individuals (as a supression of their ego) in order to materialize. The more individuals are "tuned" to this wave of consiousness that transends them the more this consiousness flourishes and manifests itself. Individuals are always the building blocks of something higher. Therefore there can be no higher consiousness realization without the use of a finite number of individuals acting as receptors of it's awakening wave. As a result consiousness is bounded by the physical and finite realm in such a way as to be limited by the same blocks that make it manifest.

3) An experience of immortality cannot in any way be centered at an individual. This notion contradicts itself. Whatever experience an individual has of "omnipotence and infinity" is bound to be just a fragmented experience. The moment the individual identifies his experience as part of himself that moment his experience becomes limited.

4) Consequently there is no end in life. There is no end in the spiral of existence. How can that be? By the moment there is a consious realization of the highest degree of an "end" or an "appex" of possible higher existence that very moment that consiousness becomes physical and limited and part of an individual perception.

5) Consequently trully bountless and immortal consiousness requires the complete death of an individual as well as the end of the finite / bounded space in which the individual originates. An individual reincarnates in search of a higher peak of finite "immortality" until that individual realizes the futility of his own existence.

In other words you can possibly know that there is no death and still be an individual. You are still hoping that there is no death!
