(from an East Coaster in the line of fire) Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1072429It would be nice to have a white Christmas! I don't know how white it will be by Christmas. Roadsides will certainly be nasty, but maybe yards will be cool. I just wanted to give everyone in the line of fire a heads up. You know, run to the grocery store and buy bread, milk and toilet paper before the shelves empty. I don't know why people think that this stuff will be unobtainable in the snow, but they do. Tomato plants? Don't know about yours, but mine have been frozen for two days, now. It's a little late for them. |

2012gregg User ID: 933586 United States 12/14/2010 12:07 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | All the weather Model shows a strong piece of energy in the southern Jet stream coming from CALIF through AZ NM and into TX by Friday. In order to get the really big humongous snowstorm scenario to work we need a the piece of energy in the Northern or Polar jet stream located over Minnesota /Lake superior ….to drop southeast through the Midwest and link up with that southern piece of energy coming out of Texas and into Georgia. If those two pieces of energy meet and Merge (called “phasing” in the weather Biz ) there will be a humongous East coast winter storm and the snowfall from Richmond to Boston will be well over 12". But if the northern piece of energy stays up over Minnesota and Lake Superior than we are looking at a system which slides off the Cape Hatteras Coast and only central and southwest Virginia and Western North Carolina would see significant snow. Unlike the winter storms of last year this one coming up for DEC 19-20 is not quite as clear cut but certainly by Thursday night or early Friday I should have a very good idea of what’s going to happen this weekend. The other important point that you may to know is that beyond this weekend’s storm ( whether it hits VA with a big snow or not) … this Low will be captured by the large Upper Low In the Jet stream still trapped over Maine and this will in turn… pull down a extremely cold air mass for the period from December 20-24 . This very cold arctic air mass with strong winds will cover all of the us east of the Mississippi River not just Virginia . ~Morrígan~ User ID: 1161448 United States 12/16/2010 08:56 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | They told me here in WV the last time that we would get 8 inches. We got like half of one. Quoting: CorporalCleggI'm in northern WV and saw about an inch. I really don't think you have to worry about 'a ton' of Glpers overloading his servers. This might be more useful. Last Edited by ~Morrígan~ on 12/16/2010 08:58 AM "So we finish 18 and he's gonna stiff me. Jool User ID: 1164100 United States 12/16/2010 11:50 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Remember the major snowstorm that hit the East Coast this time last year? Looks like we might get a repeat, almost to the day. Quoting: SlickA local forecaster in Richmond, David Tolleras (who predicted all 4 major storms for the Mid-Atlantic last year more accurately than the NWS) has made the following call. I am paraphrasing: A strong piece of energy located in California will follow the Southern Jet stream across the Southwest to Texas by Friday. This is the ‘seed’ energy for the storm. The fertilizer to make this storm affect Richmond north to Boston is a piece of energy located over Minnesota, right now. If this drops south through the Midwest and merges with the ‘seed’ system, we will see 12”+ from Richmond to Boston. If they do not merge, the system will move off of Cape Hatteras and only southwest and Central Virginia will see the storm. I am in Richmond and usually love to see the rare snow we get. We got a couple of inches, yesterday and I put my truck in a ditch. First time I ever lost control of my vehicle in 30 years of driving. I am loading up the bed of my truck with a couple hundred pounds of something this afternoon because David is predicting 3-5” of snow for Thursday. The ass-end of my truck will not go somewhere the front end does not, again. Anyway, just wanted to give a warning to all East Coast GLPers for the 19-20th. Also, be aware that he is predicting arctic temperatures thru the 24th, so the snow that falls will stay. There will be snow on the ground for Christmas. I'm in Nj, & weather channell just said a few inches...we will see. |
