wait if you have that much trouble getting around then how did you start smoking in the first place?

Exactly!!! You indulge in the vices and yet take tax payer money... and before you all jump on board saying she "earned it" you probably should look at what OP contributed vs what OP is getting out of the system in total benefits. I would be willing to bet that OP has extracted MORE than paid into the system. This is the reason why Amerika is broke...

OP, how about getting a job, any job? Sell your art, do something.

hey now wait a second, if she wants to smoke let her smoke but i am just curious how she picked up the habit in the first place.

Many, many years ago, I survived an assault. A friend accidentally left a few smokes behind. Had a lit candle. Felt momentarily self destructive. Smoked it....& thought...'Hmmm....I feel a little less stressed/horrified... I think I'll have another...' And so the addiction began. I never said I was proud to smoke. Just that I do smoke.

Dont feel bad..its VERY hard to quit..hell I've tried multiple times! haha. Years ago I had a bad addiction to pain pills...am clean now..have been for close to 6 years (went to rehab, then did outpatient stuff, NA for awhile, ect)....quitting the pills was easier then trying to quit smoking, no joke.

Does that mean that HUD pays 100% of your rent and if this is correct then what can you afford without relying upon HUD, as at is it worth losing your rights to live in their apartments.

I used to work for the Income Support Division and realize you have an up hill battle as a disabled person however if your work can cover an apartment then it is worth ditching HUD.

Hud (Duh backwards, lol) does not pay all of my rent. I won't lose my rights by smoking in my apt...of course it isn't worth that. In Nj, if you can afford rent, it disqualifies you from most much needed medical services, such as home health care.

Perhaps you're missing my point-

I am not allowed to work from home under Hud (which is within my ability & I'm glad to do it) and now, being told to no longer enjoy a small vice, whis is still legal, that makes the rest of the unnecessary oppressive, nothing to do with the limitations I was born with, tolerable. Does that make sense?

The not being able to work from home part is nuts!! you would think they would WANT ppl to do that and earn income if they can - and then hopefully not need the assistance!! DUH!! stupid government....

I agree. Even though I am not totally quit yet, I've tried the patches, the gums, ect...even that stupid medication Chantix, which omg never again!! That crap made me feel AWFUL!!!! I felt so sick all the time......no energy......crazy dreams at night that began waking me up so much that I wasnt getting enough sleep..I was a mess..and at the time my oldest was 3 and my second was a baby - just couldnt live like that! Anyway, this time I'm cutting back bit by bit then eventually will just stop all together. 3-4 months ago I was at a pack and half a day....I'm down to 5-10 cigs now....been at that for a few weeks....On monday I plan to go down to no more than 5, period, then 4, 3, 2...you get the idea. =) Hope it works!

The fact is if you can afford your own apartment without the assistance of HUD then you may rent in a commercially zoned area and continue with your business.

Obviously it would be best for her to quit smoking. I did, and I'm glad I did. Hell, we all need our vices to make this s**tty world bearable. Would you be whinging on about it if she was drinking a liter of Coke a day?

Oh, please, take the money away from these professional whores called baby mama's who really don't need government assistance before you take it away from someone like Jool who does need some help. And 150 years ago she would be receiving help from the community and this is what today's assistance is about. The community through taxes helping those in need. It is just that our taxes are being given to those not in need. OP is in need right now and I am glad my taxes are helping her. Cigs and all.

The OP really needs to find another way to support herself. The government will soon be throwing the old and sick over the side. They are the weakest group and will get the brunt of the austerity measures. If you are still in a government system that is supplying your health care they may even start killing people.

I don't have any ideas on how she can get off of the government support but I think her life depends on it.

Family would have cared for her -- or she would have been put in an institution (a horrible fate back then) -- or she would have died at a very young age.

People can say all they want that the ideal was the family caring for you. But it all depends on the family, doesn't it? A lot of people in her situation would have been abused or abandoned. Not that that doesn't happen today... but there's good reason to have a social safety net, as imperfect as it is.

Thank you. I did try college right after high school but I think I just was too immature, not serious enough and not ready. I hated it there and dropped out after just one semester. I always joke with ppl that I've done things backwards in life. Usually you go to college, get married, then have kids? Well, I had a kid at 19, got married, (had another kid), THEN started college, lol. We also have had one more boy along the way - he just turned 1 year old on the 25th. Its SO crazy balancing school with raising them, the housework, ect, but I am so grateful that my husband works so hard so I can be here with them. I have NOTHING against daycares, or parents who use them, but I want to be here when they are this little...I know most parents have no choice and have to use daycare....I feel blessed that I can stay home. I honestly never thought I'd end up in college again, and even after starting had my doubts that I'd follow through, but I am 4 classes from the end now and it feels AMAZING! One of my classmates this semester is 61 years old - going for an associates degree as well. Anything is possible!

I know the damage ciggarette smoking can do. I also use Natives, which diminishes the crap in the others. I also use an e cig to minimize as much as I can....

I am a 36 yr old disabled woman. I have limited use of my arms and legs because of a birth defect. I live on my own, with my dog, Cyrus, Service Dog Extraordinaire....I do not mind the limitations I was born with, I embrace them. As I see it- I have two choices. 1. Be angry (useless & wasteful of my energy & abilities) or 2. Understand that I am given a unique perspective. My intellect affords me the ability, through art to express my sorrows, my joys, struggles & achievements. I'm an accomplished artist who happens to paint with her mouth.

I do live on "The System", Ssi Medicaid and medicaire to survive... I understand, to many of you, that am a mere parasite. Considering the abuses that do occur within the system, I can see why many feel that way. The system is broken (as most know) but not by those that need it most. And WE are in fact in the MAJORITY, not the loud, over focused MINORITY portrayed by the msn to scare the he** out of the now struggling poor & middle class.

Did you know that under HUD law you can not work from home??

Did you know that if you earn more than (in Nj) you cannot earn more than $750 a month without losing EVERYTHING? If I attempt to earn more, I literally lose the right (through home health aid assistance) the right to to PEE & EAT???

I'm not at all saying I'm 'entitled' to those things. I am saying I AM ENTITLED by the Constitution to EARN whatever living I can.

I'm not afraid of work. I am not afraid to LIVE.

I am, however, &^$%#@&^*!!!! FURIOUS, that after being told-

Don't try
Don't work
Don't participate in the world...please watch TV & stay out of our way

Oh, & don't smoke in your home, which you pay for.....

Okay folks....I'll only be up about 20 more minutes... I'm pretty pooped! This has been a really great, discussion. I'll try to be back on tomorrow.... I'm working on a new piece that has me really motivated.... big one too. 2ft by 3ft.

Re: ************I. Am. So. Furious. ************No longer allowed to smoke in my OWN home!!********
I decided a long long time ago, I refuse to play any PC Games. Go ahead, tell me I cant smoke in my own home. I will smile in their faces and STILL smoke all I want. There are many many many ways around it, and the smell never gets anywhere if you are careful. I did this for years in a "non smoking building" in California before I got my own place in another state.. never once got caught, and got my security dep back 100%.

Screw them.. they dont own your body.

I feel your pain. Try one of those smokeless cigs. THey seem to work better than nothing.

It works on the humidity in the air. Totally harmless. At least for now. LOL.

Peace, and stay safe mon ami.

Seems like a good time to quit huh? I wish I could...
I love physics. It bonds us eternally, it's what makes our computers work, it's what's in my morning cup of coffee, it's the thing that keeps the universe from vanishing due to lack of belief...
