sigh. ebt cards have a food option, and a cash option. the "money they get from the state" is put on the card. you can not buy cigarettes with food stamps.

and really? people are just ignorant. how about if we tell people on ssi they cant buy cigs, beer, or junk food? i think it is ignorant how people abuse the system, but this lady was a jerk, and yes, deserved to be fired. if a person is so concerned about how "their tax dollars" are being spent, protest military endeavors since that is where 80% of tax dollars go.

the cashier obviously refused to take the card to pay for goods based on her own opinion (which is fine, people should have morals in their jobs, but then if someone had that much morals they wouldnt be working for a convenience store to begin with) so it is basically like she refused cash for payment based on her personal opinion. of course she got fired. and now i hope she has to go on welfare and learn what it is like to live in such a situation. and if she smokes cigarettes.. well that would just be karma in full.

All the idiots above who point out that child support goes on those cards should realize that CHILD SUPPORT IS FOR CHILDREN!!!! You should be using child support to provide food, housing, clothing, and medical needs for the child. Not to get yourself drunk or buy cigarettes.

really? well now.. i think your govt disagrees with your numbers. defense budget is 24.9%, vet benefits is 4.5%, international affairs is 1.6%, and "additional govt programs" is 7.9%. so there is like 38& of stated federal funds going to military endeavors. that doesnt include state taxes, or corporate taxes.

and if you distrust your govt, then you know that those numbers are lower than reality.

She should be fired. If I were the owner, I would fire her too for refusing to sell my merchandise to a willing buyer.

Secondly, she holds no authority over the man or his EBT card. She cant directly tell people what to do with their welfare money. In this case she wasnt just telling but also forcing him. If she wants EBT users to not buy cigarrets then call her mayor, start a petition, start a website and make her government to make this into a law. Otherwise, right now, she holds no authority hence she cant force people to buy or not but things she likes. Glad she's fired.

I'm glad she was fired. Food stamps buy food. Cash aid buys everything else. It is none of her business what anyone buys. So what about cigarettes, alcohol and junk food. You smoke and drink and eat it too. It is a luxury, but until they change the way the benefits are used by blocking certain transactions, it is legal and she should be fired. She is discriminating against the poor.
