The music he set to lure neighbors in to set off the explosives. This would have diverted police resources, allowing him time to escape from the theater.

But the story is that he just waited at his car to be arrested and told police about the booby traps. He was not trying to escape, it doesn't add up. You would expect him to go out in a blazing firefight, after all he had already supposedly killed 12 and injured many others, why did he suddenly "go straight"? The whole thing stinks.

hey dopes, get your movie references correct... in the original "the manchurian candidate" it wasnt the brainwashed ex-pow who killed on command that was the "manchurian candidate", but his step-father (the veep running mate married to the shooter's handler/mother), who according to the plot was supposed to become the presidential "candidate" after the ex-pow shot the original candidate at the presidential convention. mom/wife/handler was the brains behind his run and joe mccarthy-esque rhetoric, and a "fellow traveler" sleeper agent that was in red china's pocket, hence the title "the manchurian candidate"... what a buncha morans!!

Yea it's like he suddenly 'snapped' out of whatever hypnosis or trance or whatever he may have been under, and did what he could to minimize any further damage by alerting them to the apt being rigged, and who knows where it go from there. I'm not being so quick to call him out like the mass public sheep. There's some fucked up stuff that happens out there, and just imagine if one day you just found yourself standing somewhere brandishing an assault rife, shotgun, or whatever you may have and not know wtf?
