EARTHQUAKE SWARM...... Saddle Springs Rd, Sequoia National Forest - Lake Isabelle, Central California....CONFIRMED
Just noticed these quakes today and wondering what's up....All seemed to be at the same spot. There could be more quakes at this spot but unsure on how to pull them up.....

UPDATE: 04/08/12

Thanks to AC 1331430 further down, a Earthquake swarm has been CONFIRMED around Lake Isabelle. All the Earthquakes can be seen here:

[link to earthquake.usgs.gov]

Also, there was a few +2 mag EQs Yesterday, and today there has been a 3.0 mag:

3.0
2012/08/04
02:17:49
35.535N 118.404W
1.3km depth
13 km ( 8 mi) SSE of town of Lake Isabella, CA

Thanks to another AC, There is a number of fault lines close by, here's the post with information on them:

Gizzie,

We just passed the anniversary of the White Wolf Fault, the swarm is tied between the Garlock Fault and White Wolf.

Google: Tehachapi Quake and tie it into the White Wolf Swarm.
 Quoting: Sandbox Soldier 11235712

Thanks for that....Had a quick look through the wikis for the above faults and noticed the San Andreas fault is 50km away too. A lot of fault lines close by and some major earthquakes been in that general area in the past..

When looking at the Tehachapi quake wiki, noticed it mentioned that the Garlock last ruptured 500 years ago. When I looked at the Garlock wiki it stated that this is not a particularly active fault and it goes on to state that Garlock will produce another major quake at some point in the future...

Got plenty of reading to do, thank you....

Found this article on the Hot Springs there:

Hot Springs in the Sequoia National Forest

What is a hot spring? The textbook definition is any spring whose water is at least 15 degrees warmer than the annual air temperature in the area. They are formed from water that is heated underground and returned to the surface. In certain areas, magma or lava has worked its way up through the Earth's crust to relatively shallow depths below the surface.

There seems to be a lot of movement there at the minute, this is something defo to keep an eye on....

I have the following Windows 7 Gadget called Earthquake Meter, it's linked up to USGS and works in real time. I have never seen so many California earthquakes showing like it is now....

The Gadget is here if anyone wants it:

It's called Earthquake Meter about half way down the page or so....

Good job on the links.

I've been watching the Garlock fault for quite some time now, the last six months has seen a dramatic increase in seismicity. The eastern Mojave seismic zone is ripe with stress. I'm positive that well see a 7M near the Hector Mine Fault in 2012.

Thanks for the great read.

the 188 day earthquake cycle all point to a major earthquake somewhere in the US.

Also, its been about 300 years since the last Cascadia superquake, also overdue for that one as well.

Tie in the super volcano in Yellowstone and things start to look ugly!

Theory that you subscribe is that eventually these areas fragment so much that you have volcanos. Unfortunately, that does not explain why Yellowstone has not erupted yet even though they have hot springs, geysers, fumaroles, etc.

Re: EARTHQUAKE SWARM...... Saddle Springs Rd, Sequoia National Forest - Lake Isabelle, Central California....CONFIRMED
The overall number of quakes less than 3.0 is normal. But your keen eyes did spot a swarm around Lake Isabella, good catch!

This is a more precise map and list for reference:

[link to earthquake.usgs.gov]

My own concern is that we haven't been getting enough quakes over 3.0:

Wow, thank you for the list...was hoping that someone would be able to point me in the right direction to the list of EQs below 2.5....I did search but couldn't find it.

That is quite a swarm going on there, defo worth keeping an eye on then....

As for the lack of earthquakes above 3.0, do you think there is a reason for this?

Thanks again.

Gizzie, I use this one for smaller swarms, the ones USGS WON'T SHOW:

And this one for reliability:

And this is the best definition of the white wolf fault:

Probably nothing, but . . .

Just checked out Live Earthquakes Map, and five small (1.2 to 3.4) have happened in California in just the past 45 minutes. This is not all THAT unusual, but it doesn't happen very often, either. It's also unusual because they were in Northern, Southern, and Central California.

...and yet the heat and the stress in Southern Cali from the border to Lake Isabella is stone quiet.

That's kinda eerie. Lets see if the afternoon bake will lead to a good shake.

You're welcome. I don't have any idea why >3.0,s stopped, but it was pretty unusual not to have any between July 25 and August 3rd.

We finally got 2, one in northern Cali and one down south, within 25 minutes if each other Friday morning:

Northern California quakes in that region are geothermal related, but the southern California and Baja quakes are actually stressors from the carribean, Nazca and east pacific rise activity.
