This is not fibre optics we are using here, the pictures have to be sent almost half a billion miles across space from a relatively low powered rover upto a satellite and then sent to a satellite above earth and down to the control centre. Of course they are going to send a black and white photo first. |

Curiosity is actually the first rover to include true RGB color cameras and the ability to record video in HD. They plan to take the cover off in a week or so. I cannot wait until the cover comes off. I want to see the true colors.
