Immortals walk amongst us.
but they can die a physical death. Some may be superior in healing and immune system. Generally the older they are the better their healing is because they have had nothing but time to adapt to disease.

This does not apply to the secluded. The secluded may be weaker, driven to seclusion either to wait out for different times, or sickness of life without the will to end it.

Both active and secluded are strong in the mind. They know mental dicipline. Many immortal have died, just not of old age. The longer an immortal, lives the larger the probability for survival becomes.

Some immortals view human society and life like a game of chess. They are the watchers, they move the pieces from the outside. Others have taken up the sword, involving themselves, they feel as though they are gods.

Capturing an immortal, finding a dead immortal, these are not possible today. No proof can be given. A dead immortal's brain cannot be tested for the wealth of knowledge and pure skill for all things. Their blood may prove to be strong with many antibodies and an incredible immune system that an athlete may have, but this would no be a remarkable, stunning, or unique find. Even with no identity, an immortal would just be another John Doe in the books. This is why there is no "proof" of immortals since times when people were open to believe such things.

The sensative can sometimes notice an immortal. I do not know the answer to this, I do not know why. But to the sensative, they may take notice to the one out of a croud. Is it behavior communication, the way they move.. or perhaps mental development over time. I believe it to be body language.

Immortals do not have super powers and mind control abilities. Many are remarkable. Time has given them the chance to hone their reaction times and not only learn.. but perfect techniques in various skills. Physically there is a different between knowing your body for 30 years and knowing it for 300. With more time you may move different, react faster, know the very best way to react to many situations. The mental dicipline only enhances their abilities, and together their physical and mental turn into heavily increased survival. Some could be viewed as gods, being mystical, or having powers simply because of their perfected movement and thinking.

Now you know more about the immortals.

The Fantastic Four is traveling downtown, in a palmel fashion, with a giant interdimensional portal part, they put it together and all of a sudden, the Immortals, in their big spaceship come through.

They are big, perfect and they don't care about anyone.

Re: Immortals walk amongst us.
Many years ago I read a science fiction story about someone who encountered an immortal. He (the protagonist) noticed him (the immortal) eating in a restaurant. The immortal ate *perfectly*. No spills, no wasted movement, no drops, no crumbs. No normal person does that.

Sorry I don't remember any more about the story, all those brain cells are dead.
Sitting quietly, doing nothing, spring comes and the grass grows by itself.

"The Highlander walks among us."

A nice fiction. Far from truth, but there is more I can tell if this kind of subject peaks your interest.

-Immortal Wars-

All immortals go through a mental breaking point. Being immortal means losing your loves, friends, and seeing everyone you are close to pass away. With more time comes more trajedy. It is the way of life. Having eternal(*) natural life puts the immortal outside of the mortal ways, and so at one point or another the immortal must face this and come to terms with it. Many immortals are dark in character, shady, distant, and hardened due to this.

Immortals who cannot mentally survive their breaking point either choose death or choose madness. Something I mentioned earlier is that some immortals look upon themselves as gods. This state of mind combined with the madness and not accepting their life is poison, deadly. Other immortals become their equals and mortals become a very lesser thing. The war between immortals in the past has often been sparked by these immortals who look upon themselves and fellow immortals as gods. They may choose to seek, join, and fight others.

Sometimes madness is a cruel form of brilliance, and so they gain support from mortals with incredible success. Some battles in history could be creditted to such immortals. A clash between two immortals driven mad could be history worthy indeed.

It could sound epic, but in the end I suppose I am simply telling you about the mental state an immortal might have. Mad or not, most immortals are heavily afflicted. It's a question as to whether their minds adapt or not.

Re: Immortals walk amongst us.
We are all immortals. Ponder the sleep/awake states to see that life and death are merely two parts of a singularity. What you are experiencing now is actually death. It is a break in the continuity of life, which cannot be defined in terms of time, though it can be quantified as that which is between death and death. It is active or conscious participation in the higher state of being, in which we are, prior to falling asleep and finding ourselves here. To catch a glimpse of an immortal, one only need remember who he is.

Re: Immortals walk amongst us.
On January 22nd, 1921, a man named William Kanigher approached our Order with information concerning the Amaranthites. He spent several days with Knights who specialized in studying the immortal. The resulting notes and depositions that were taken eventually became the basis for the document entitled: The Bloodless. It is one of two texts that we use to prepare members for any project involving the Amaranthites. The following is an excerpt from Kanigher's conversations with our Knights.

It's nearly impossible to tell the difference between one of them and one of us. They appear as human as you or I, and their intellect is unmatched. Plus, every one of them each other on a personal level. They share information every few decades about the whereabouts of us hunters. It makes my job that much more difficult. They are also able to sense when others of their race are nearby, which makes it very difficult to hunt them if you happen to be one.

We 'humans' all can be 'imortal'. The only thing holding us to death is in our DNA, Gene number 5 is our death gene as scientist have found out and are trying to see if they can manipulate it or totally get rid of it in the human DNA string.Just thought you would like to know this

Re: Immortals walk amongst us.
I believe selected humans or hybrids (we are all basically hybrids)may live for centuries.
Appearing over spans of time to an ignorant populace, this seems to be "Life Everlasting" and I might add good health.
Nobody lives forever but the Visitors are so advanced they can extend your life. But there are other factors.Diet for instance. You would not be allowed to eat meat or solids. Notice the hybrids are all very lean.
Jesus for instance. When he first reappeared after the Ascencion,he was unrecognizable (probably devoid of hair) and said that he was hungry.
One example.

Re: Immortals walk amongst us.
Assuming a bell curve for life expectancies with progeria (accelerated aging) on the left and congeria(my designation - decelerated aging) on the right, statistics would indicate the possibility. The issues involved might be.
1) Born in 3rd world country. Dies of disease or starvation.
2) Dies in accident
3) Hides as social taboos might get them burned at the stake. Or worse yet, 'studied'
4) Still young and doesn't realize their true nature.

71641, they are not always selected. I have known some in history to have developed immortal via extreme stress and lifestyle. Something caused the change, but then maybe they had it in them all along.

Re: Immortals walk amongst us.
Yes, we have this potential. The reasoning for our lifespans being altered is addressed directly in many ancient 'mythologies'. Each instance that I've come across in my research, in distant disparate cultures, is that a God decided if we didn't die we would over-populate the planet. And this was clearly not a problem when these mythologies originated.
