i make minium wage.i work 36 hours a week. i live in a apartment with my girlfriend, dog and a nice fish tank. i have a cell phone and internet. i get ZERO from the government. im about to go back and finish college with a loan. i live comfortably, i cant go out to eat every meal but im happy with my situation considering what i have. if i can do it, anyone can.

oh. and if the wage goes up to 9 my place of work (a small family owned pet store, not a chain of any kind) WILL GO OUT OF BUSINESS. My boss treats us all like family and if she COULD pay us 9 she would, but guess what....she cant.

Can you prove that these welfare recipients will jump for joy over $9 an hour and go back into the workforce (presuming they tried in the first place)? No, they won't.

Meanwhile, with increased taxation and an increasing minimum wage, the cost will either drive smaller businesses into the ground, or, the cost will be passed onto us. In either situation, the circumstance becomes more dire for the average American as they are either let go from their job, or, the expend more of their money to eat, clothe, and keep warm.

If I own a small business and have X dollars to pay labor with, and still make ANY kind of profit, and I employ 5 people at $ 7.25 per hour, my basic wage cost is $ 36.25 per hour.

If the GOVERNMENT butts in and says I MUST pay $ 9 / hr., guess what happens ?

I FIRE someone, and now pay 4 people at $ 9 / hr. = $ 36 / hr.

Minimum wage jobs are STARTING points.

The minimum wage was never intended to provide anyone a living, it was to make sure employers couldn't take advantage of entry level laborers and student workers.
