From your Soure, i like them (Global Research) a lot but
they make some Mistakes like everyone;

The operator of the stricken Fukushima nuclear plant has been dumping something like a thousand tons per day of radioactive water into the Pacific ocean.

Remember, the reactors are “riddled with meltdown holes”, building 4 – with more radiation than all nuclear bombs ever dropped or tested – is missing entire walls, and building 3 is a pile of rubble.

This is not true, F:Shima is not dumping Thousands of Tons Water and daily in to the Ocean,
this is wrong and i do not know where this come from!

Building Nr.4 also do not have Melt-Down Holes!
Building 3. look bad but the Core and the Containment is still there, i don:t mind the Roof!

The whole complex is leaking like a sieve, and the rivers of water pumped into the reactors every day are just pouring into the ocean (with only a slight delay).

Most people assume that the ocean will dilute the radiation from Fukushima enough that any radiation reaching the West Coast of the U.S. will be low.

The Water is in a cooling Cycle and when you visit the official Side you are able to understand it.

Imo. Global Research, who just take this Article from Washington Blog which is not really a Source,
mixed up the Debris Field with all of the Seawater,
they say:
he floating debris will likely be carried by currents off of Japan toward Washington, Oregon and California before turning toward Hawaii and back again toward Asia, circulating in what is known as the North Pacific gyre, said Curt Ebbesmeyer, a Seattle oceanographer who has spent decades tracking flotsam.

***

“All this debris will find a way to reach the West coast or stop in the Great Pacific Garbage Patch,” a swirling mass of concentrated marine litter in the Pacific Ocean, said Luca Centurioni, a researcher at Scripps Institution of Oceanography, UC San Diego.

But the Debris is not the Seawater
hf

It is more than stupid to conclude that both react in the same Way!

It's a VERY BIG and DEEP ocean!

My question is why haven't you been making a stink about the Hanford Nuclear site in Washington state?

It's a thousand (actually much more) times more radioactive material on land contaminating the Colombia river and the ground water but you aren't jumping up and down about that!

Guess where the Columbia leads to! A hint it doesn't have to cross the ocean to get to our fishing grounds!

1* OP because you aren't worried about cleaning up your own back yard but bitch about the neighbors!

Ocean still suffering from Fukushima fallout

Continuing leaks and contaminated sediment keep radiation levels high.

[...]

New data presented at a conference held on 12–13 November at the University of Tokyo show that levels of radioactivity in the sea around the plant remain stable, rather than falling as expected. Researchers believe that run-off from rivers, as well as continued leaks from the plant, may be partially to blame. But contaminated sediment and marine organisms also seem to be involved.

[...]

The Fukushima disaster caused by far the largest discharge of radioactivity into the ocean ever seen. A new model presented by scientists from Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution in Massachusetts estimates that 16.2 petabecquerels (1015 becquerels) of radioactive caesium leaked from the plant — roughly the same amount that went into the atmosphere.

[...] in the region of the ocean near the plant, levels of caesium-137 have remained fixed at around 1,000 becquerels, a relatively high level compared to the natural background. Similarly, levels of radioactive caesium in bottom-dwelling fish remain pretty much unchanged more than 18 months after the accident.

Researchers at the conference are convinced that something is preventing the radiation levels from dropping. “There must be a source,” says Scott Fowler, an oceanographer at Stony Brook University in New York.

In fact, a fresh analysis by oceanographer Jota Kanda at the Tokyo University of Marine Science [estimates] the plant itself is leaking around 0.3 terabecquerels [0.3 trillion becquerels] per month [...]

Japan Experts: Contamination from Fukushima “is almost irreversible” in coastal sediments

[...] it can be inferred that dissolved radiocesium advected southward from the region adjacent to the 1FNPP and was deposited to the sediment of the study area in the early stage after the accident. The incorporation of radiocesium into sediments was almost irreversible, and higher concentrations of 137Cs were obtained from the finer-grained fraction of sediments. [...]

137Cs levels in sediment decreased considerably between June and August, and then remained at the same level until January 2012. This trend indicates that the initial deposition of 137Cs to the sediment had almost ceased by August, and that the incorporation of 137Cs into sediments was almost irreversible. [...]

In conclusion [...] it can also be inferred that the remarkable decrease in 137Cs level between June and August 2011 (Table 3) was not caused by dissolution of labile 137Cs but by a physical transport (export) of irreversibly bound 137Cs.

[...] Most of radiocesium in the coastal sediments is incorporated into lithogenic fractions, and this incorporation is almost irreversible. Accordingly, the biological availability of sedimentary radiocesium is relatively low, but continuous monitoring of radiocesium inmarine biota is highly recommended because significant amounts of radiocesium have been accumulated in the sediment.

A fish contaminated with radiation levels more than 2,500 times the legal limit has been caught near Japan’s crippled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant [...]

(TEPCO) said caesium equivalent to 254,000 becquerels per kilogramme — or 2,540 times more than the government seafood limit — was detected in a “murasoi” fish [...] caught at a port inside the Fukushima plant, a TEPCO spokesman said. [...]

Enformable: There are no current restrictions which prevent fish from coming and going freely in and out of the port, but TEPCO will make plans to install nets in the harbor mouth and outside the harbor in response to the latest findings.

Although it has kept its structure intact, Reactor 2 is the current source of the most important radioactive releases into the soil as well as into the sea.

The explosion took place inside the building.

Operators had probably encountered difficulties depressurizing the containment and the wet well suppression pool broke.

This loss of leak-tightness led to the discharge into the atmosphere of unfiltered radioactive elements and to the spreading of highly contaminated water in the buildings,
leading to highly polluting discharges into the sea.

Study: Fukushima plutonium in Pacific Ocean from ‘liquid direct releases’?

Much less information is available in the case of plutonium isotopes. Trace amounts of Pu isotopes originating from the accident have been identified in soil samples. While it is known that atmospheric releases of Pu were several orders of magnitude lower than that from Chernobyl accident, no information on Pu isotopes in the liquid direct releases to the sea is available. Pu isotopes have been measured in marine sediments outside a 30 km radius circle around Fukushima. Results do not show any contamination due to the accident. Instead Pu isotopes here detected are attributed to global fallout. However, the situation inside the 30 km zone remains unknown. It could be possible that Pu isotopes entered this coastal area from the direct release of contaminated water in early April 2011. The objective for this work consists of showing, by means of numerical modelling, that, if Pu contamination originating from the accident would be present in sediments of the close area to Fukushima, contamination would not reach areas far from the plant. Contamination would be restricted to the close area because of the low mobility of Pu. Thus, it would not be detected if samples are not collected there. Consequently, further studies on the determination of Pu isotopes in seawater and sediments within the 30 km zone would be required.

Re: FUKUSHIMA: Pacific Ocean Will Not Dilute Dumped Radioactive Water!

High levels of radioactive iodine-131 (with a half-life of about 8 days),
cesium-137 (with a halflife of about 30 years),
and cesium-134 (with a half-life of about 2 years)
were measured in seawater adjacent to the Fukushima Dai-ichi site after the March 2011 events.

EPA rainfall monitors in California, Idaho, and Minnesota detected
trace amounts of radioactive iodine, cesium, and tellurium consistent with the Japanese nuclear incident, at concentrations below any level of concern.

It is uncertain how precipitation of radioactive elements from the atmosphere may have affected radiation levels in the marine environment.

Scientists have stated that radiation in the ocean very quickly becomes diluted and would not be a problem beyond the coast of Japan.
The same is true of radiation carried by winds.

Barring another unanticipated release, radioactive contaminants
from Fukushima Dai-ichi should be sufficiently dispersed over time
that they will not prove to be a serious health threat elsewhere,
unless they bioaccumulate in migratory fish or find their way directly to another part of the world through food or other commercial products.

Radioactive contamination of seafood from the nuclear disaster in Japan has not emerged as a
food safety problem for consumers in the United States. According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA),
the damage to infrastructure in Japan limited food production and
associated exports from areas near the Fukushima nuclear facility.

FDA and Customs and Border Protection continue to screen imported foods from Japan,
including seafood, before they can enter the U.S. food supply.

Based on computer modeling of ocean currents, marine debris from the tsunami produced by the Tohoku earthquake was projected to spread eastward from Japan in the North Pacific Subtropical Gyre.

Approximately two to three years after the event, the debris plume was projected to reach the U.S. West Coast, dumping debris on California beaches and the beaches of British Columbia, Alaska, and Baja California.

However, initial debris is already arriving.

Although most of the radioactive release from Fukushima Dai-ichi
is believed to have occurred after the tsunami,
there is a slight possibility that some of the tsunami debris might also be contaminated with radiation.

A related concern is the transport of nonnative, and potentially invasive, species from Japan to U.S.
shores on marine debris.

Legislation (H.R. 1171, H.R. 6251, and S. 1119) has been introduced in
the 112th Congress to address marine debris concerns.
