The data on ambient noise is combined with color and lighting information from the camera to figure out who's inside, who's outside, who's in one room, and who's in another, so the app can auto-generate spontaneous temporary social networks of people who are sharing the same experience. Another app discussed is, Shopkick, which gives people rewards for walking into certain stores. While you might think it could accomplish what it needs with GPS, apparently the stores in question have special devices that emit sounds that you can't hear, the microphone on your phone can pick up, thus "confirming" that you really entered the store." They transmit and read other WiFi signal DUH--- Quoting: Anonymous Coward 37679717 There was an article about 3+ yrs ago (cannot remember which state, but was a northern mid-west state, Minnesota or Wisconsin). The basis of it was that people's mood can be influenced by the frequency that lights put off. They real interesting part was the light could change the frequency by the power supplied to the house. My meter is located on the other side of my master bedroom closet. I covered that wall with aluminum screen. They can monitor my usage but nothing's coming toward my house at least. FYI- smart meters work by creating a mesh network. That is if the power company has a reciever on a light pole in a neighborhood, all of the smart meters that are not in line of sight to the reciever, actually will transmit to another smart meter until it reaches a meter that does have line of site. Remember when they first were installed, people were getting bills that were 4-5 times larger than before. That is because of other meters transmitted to it, but their meter didnt seperate the usage of the other meters so it looked like that meter used all of power. Better wrap the entire house with foil!! We are in the same boat, not fun. I don't want one. What can I do? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 22058093 In the UK you can legally refuse to have radio transmission equipment installed on your property. If you own the place that is, if you are renting it gets more complicated. I also hear if you refuse they (can and do) install it at the property line. But that is still better than having it closeby. So far it is still soft-sell here, they push it but they aint forcing people as far as i know, yet. I have heard some energy providers refuse to service your property without accepting one though. “Looking for consciousness in the brain is like looking in the radio for the announcer.” - A Physicist "They've killed God, I can't feel God, my soul is dead." - Clot-Shot Trial Victim Unjabbed, untested, unafraid. |
