OK is it strange that some of the runners at the Boston Marathon kept running?

i don't think they realized it was a bomb, more like a finale (fireworks, loud explosion, etc.)... probably took a few minutes for things to register mentally...

I find it strange that the runner who fell down during the explosion was old and he also had a bandage on his leg. It is strange because apparently those runners were the first round of runners to cross the finish line. (One heck of a feat for an old man with a bandage on his leg)

cnn had a really close video from someone from boston.com. People were screaming and it was immediate.

No. Runners are thinking about their time and maybe they thought it was something else.

What WAS ODD was the 2 cops who are standing right in front of the blast where the old man fell in front of them. They don't even flinch. Well, one barely does a tiny flinch but the other just stands there and continues looking down the road. A few seconds later, then they react.

I would guess that for some people, an event like that takes a few moments to register. The explosions could have been registered as fireworks, the screaming as cheering, so on. That moment of disbelief that something like this could happen can be powerful.

When watching the video of the runner falling in slow motion, the man's legs appear to collapse under him. Being right next to the explosion when it happened, it makes sense to me that he'd collapse like that especially if he was taxed by running 4 hours!

Is normal human response .
The only thing You'r focussed on is Your finish-time. Nothing else matters. (as you see).
After they're finishes the normal world is comming back to their brains.

Look at the runners passing the place of bombing.. Same response. It isn't fitting in their brain at that moment.

i am sure you can get into the frame of mind of a person finishing up a marathon from you keyboard, let alone consider that you are watching it in slow motion.

People don't internalize a catastrophe and continue on with their normal course. It's been documented in subway fires - people just keep walking in, because that much chaos can't possibly be happening.

You gotta understand they have just run 42.2ks/26miles. After that distance your not focused on whats going on around you cause your so drained.

Very true (not that I've ever run that distance, I'm good for about 10 yards).

actually some look over at the explosion... and keep running. Possibly from it? Not sure.

I have run a couple of marathons, and the crowds cheering, the hubbub, the excitement, it all blends into a dull roar as you focus on putting one foot in front of the other and just get to the end. Especially right near the finish line, you are in a zone, the outside world hardly invading your inner dialogue to just "git 'er done".

The last thing that would be expected would be a bomb, so even when it happens right in front of you, it would not register at first as a bomb.

I could totally see how the first few people would've been oblivious to the emergency unfolding around them.
