I just volunteered and went on my first call which was a person that was mauled by a pit bull. I have an EMT Basic certificate but I had to wait by the fire engine. I thought it was awesome! Not that someone was hurt but because I can help someone. That is what I want to do, is to help people. The DHS Emergency Management recently had an Emergency Preparedness symposium here in New Mexico which I thought was "odd". I talked to the DHS and I got a negative vibe from them. Anyways, my first call was awesome! I watched them provide medical care and I wanted to help so bad but I was a "newbie" lol. EMS and Firefighters will help you in SHTF.
