Anonymous Coward User ID: 37540196 ![]() 12/30/2013 01:34 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I would love to visit that area since I am 68 miles away, but I don't want the sinkhole to blow up on me. haha Quoting: CigarTigher If she blows you had better be at least 300 miles away... We live less than 50 miles away...There was talk a while back that 500 miles would be the worse case scenario. The weakened salt domes would give before the surface would. The explosion would be mostly horizontal in nature. In essence this is much worse because there's a chance for a chain reaction to destabilize thesurrounding salt domes. Being 68 miles away wouldn't be at risk for the initial explosion just the much worse collapsing of the state of lousiana into the gulf of mexico. Ever since this started I thought this is the event that gets us to the new USA navy mapp |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 12086234 ![]() 12/30/2013 01:44 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I wonder if being close to 500 miles away, puts me out of the danger zone? What about a fallout cloud? There was reports of radioactive materials being stored in theses salt domes. Not to mention all the oil refineries and chemical plants in the general area. This is a worst case scenario type situation, and no one really seems all that concerned about the repercussions of doing nothing. |

TEOTWAIKI User ID: 42245223 ![]() 12/30/2013 03:00 PM ![]() Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | That would be one hell of a major engineering job. Bayou Corne is a BIG bayou. I think right now they are grasping at straws just to make people believe they are doing something about the situation. Looks to me like the Bayou is going to reroute itself; downward into the salt cavern... |

I think right now they are grasping at straws just to make people believe they are doing something about the situation. Wouldn't removing the water from the top change the shape and texture of the ground and potentially make it collapse faster? Water is noncompressible. That, to some extent, sort of helps hold things up, as I understand the situation. |

AKObserver User ID: 16838563 ![]() 12/30/2013 04:47 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The strangest thing happened yesterday. I just associated it with the quaking in the ground. Quoting: Earth Cries We had two different people come by late yesterday afternoon looking for missing dogs. One was a Pug and the other a Jack Russell. I've lived here 40 years and this has never happened before. We get an occasional hunting dog that shows up, but they have tags with phone numbers where you can call the owner. Never had people actually out actively hunting for their pets before. I have always heard that animals can sense movements in the ground. I hope this isn't a bad omen... I hope not too! ![]() [link to wiki.answers.com] |
