Re: NASA validates "WTF - Impossible" space drive. Interesting...UPDATED - 8/14/2017
I'm merely saying that it is interesting that you would whole-heartedly entertain fantasy-based space travel, with but one lone link as support, but would in the same day vehemently deny the possibility that some form of "spraying" campaign is real and ongoing for all unbrainwashed to see.. Double standard much?
 Quoting: gmigriff

Seriously? Did you even read this thread and the papers?

There are multiple studies all showing the same phenomenon/effect. That is what makes it so interesting. You are embarrassing yourself…..

Is this the point where I ask you if you want me to post a couple and then you say yes and then I do and then you change the subject?

Please let me know if you would like to proceed with the scenario above.

Sorry, but you have not come across as in any way reasonable before. You seemed to revel in the discouragement of an open minded debate. If I'm mistaken, I will apologize. But for now... What makes you even entertain the possibility that we are not paranoid, and that some unknown program is ongoing?

 Quoting: gmigriff

The available evidence is what I base my beliefs on……no matter who it angers.

And yes, you are in error about me. I encourage you and others to take a quick look at my posts and then yours with the idea of name calling in mind. Again, we both know how that ends and no, I don’t think you will apologize after the inevitable conclusion is reached.
 Quoting: Setheory

Wait, you're really pulling that card? You've been a gentleman the whole time? Ha!
Please,answer the question above.

What makes you unsure that it is impossible, that there is a spraying campaign ongoing? C'mon, you just alluded to your doubt. Go on.
 Quoting: gmigriff

It is not impossible. The evidence just happens to show otherwise. This isn't a Chemtrail thread however.

So are you going to show me where I was calling folks ignorant and stupid? Again, we both know the answer to that don't we?

Are you still interested in seeing "multiple" studies? Again, we both know the answer to that.

I see a pattern here...

Post whatever multiple studies you have. You have yet to claim what about. Do it. Will they prove anything either way? No.
Rock on, my respected space brother. May your experimental travels be free from spontaneous implosion.

This has been around for a long while, if you do a experiment and it works, it does not violate anything, just does something we did not know was possible.

Same for LENR (the currente most popular name for what was once mistakingly called cold fusion). Nasa also is into it (Google Joseph Zawodny LENR).

If the thing need electric power, why not stick a nuke on board? Surely in space there is plenty cooling. And you could get into some serious thrust outputs.
What works for a submarine...why doesn't it for a spacecraft?

For launch it may still be impractical (and scary), but once in orbit surely it can thrust enough to leave Earth and get some serious acceleration going?
Hardest part is having to loop the water (or other liquid-gas convertible propellant), not dump steam and take in cold water, as out there water is hard to come by. A closed system
In vacume though, a good radiator layout might condense used steam, cool it back to liquid, cool the nuke, and do its steam turbine work to generate electricity for the microwave thruster.
The less water makes it work reliably, the better.

Anyone know how much a submarine nuclear drive can produce in electric power? Would it beat a bunch of solar panels? I space more panels of course only adds mass, not drag. But they can get a bit tender from space rubble impacts. Bigger means more difficult to navigate between little rocks and dust particles. If you are yo travel long distances, you want to go real fast, and that takes a sturdy bullet-like shape to be durable.

Is this a game changer for satellites and space travel?

[link to www.wired.co.uk]

"Test results indicate that the RF resonant cavity thruster design, which is unique as an electric propulsion device, is producing a force that is not attributable to any classical electromagnetic phenomenon and therefore is potentially demonstrating an interaction with the quantum vacuum virtual plasma."
 Quoting: Setheory

Dude, sweet find! If this is true, this completely changes everything in spaceflight. A propellant-less thruster, this would nearly render the tsiolkovsky rocket equation pointless for all future spaceflight (except perhaps for getting into orbit initially). 720 mN is amazing if true, the ion engine on the Dawn spacecraft only produces 90 mN, and even an ion engine must expend fuel (albeit with very high isp). Not as high thrust as Vasimr, but still much better than ion. Buzz Aldrin's idea of not coming back from a trip to Mars to make it more feasible? Fuck that, you suddenly don't need to expend fuel to break Martian orbit and return to earth. This changes the entire paradigm of spaceflight, if it really does pan out. You could load a bunch of these up on your manned spacecraft and use as much payload fraction for life support and supplies as you please without having to worry about what it will do to your delta-V budget - you don't have a delta-V budget, you have unlimited delta-V as long as you have power.

The one concern I have is that in the NASA test they report much lower thrust, 50mN, similar to ion engines (perhaps due to test article differences/power levels?) and even their "null" test article produced thrust. That sends a red flag up in my mind that it could be a spurious detection of thrust that isn't really there due to some sort of interference with the test equipment, but I don't know how. I just don't want to get my hopes up over nothing, but I'm going to be seeing a former astronaut this weekend and I will definitely ask him if he knows anything about this.
[link to ntrs.nasa.gov]
 Quoting: Dr. Astro

Sorry Astro, I custom highlighted the raw tiff files of the actual tests are there was no actually verifiable thrust. If you understand even a little bit of applicable math, you'd understand that what your are actually seeing here is a parallax artifact.

Lack of scientific principles and failure to be even remotely rational is what leads so many people astray. You really should spend some time to learn how science actually works. Null tests generating thrust? No fuel required for a propulsion system? LOL, read up on a guy named Newton. Next you'll be talking about anti-gravity and flying saucers. Even now you doing like that crackpot Hoagland, with your reliance on "torsion fields" to explain your so-called "physics."

LOL, you truly are shameless.

Whether this is actually true or not is another matter, I remain skeptical, but the NASA results coupled with the Chinese tests warrant further investigation in my opinion.

"Q. Why does the EmDrive not contravene the conservation of momentum when it operates in free space?
A. The EmDrive cannot violate the conservation of momentum. The electromagnetic wave momentum is built up in the resonating cavity, and is transferred to the end walls upon reflection. The momentum gained by the EmDrive plus the momentum lost by the electromagnetic wave equals zero. The direction and acceleration that is measured, when the EmDrive is tested on a dynamic test rig, comply with Newtons laws and confirm that the law of conservation of momentum is satisfied."

Bottom line is more tests are needed.
