Quoting: Anonymous Coward 57470216 When people get pulled over, they are usually nervous, whether they are guilty of anything or not. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 57470216 You have to give the driver some leeway of irrational behavior. He just plain capped him the minute he reached into his car. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 57470216 |

Quoting: Hardwired As soon as I stop after seeing flashing lights, I pull out my license, and retrieve my registration and insurance from the oddly-named glove box. When the cop approaches my window, I have it in hand. Makes sense. Sometimes even THIS behavior is deemed suspicious - like you expected to be pulled over. no it's not. it shows the cop that you are no threat dimwit. Say what you will, but I've read this in police manuals. It's about the person appearing "too prepared", and possibly wanting to avoid any possible reason for a search. putting ones' hands on the steering wheel is 100% for the cop's benefit. if they are saying this is suspicious... then we are all doomed. . |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 3042112 I can understand how a cop in high alert mode could think he was going in his car to grab a gun. Is the cop at fault in this scenario? Yeah, he was quick to judge but I feel the cop's action is within reason. Scared copes are like scared dogs they bite at anything and for no reason, and there was no reason and coupled with his history he was a loose cannon. |

A great many cops are the cowards and bullies in school....they many wear a uniform now but they are still pussies...if there is a chance that they would break a nail during an arrest, they are emptying their gun into you... The peace officers I knew in my youth was a different breed....I remember a few that walked a beat and got into scuffles with neighborhood drunks...they wouldn't arrest the drunks because they knew the drunk's family rely on him going to work...nowaday those drunks would be full of bullets in the same encounters.... Guess what?...the neighborhood also like and respected those beat cops....can't say the same today... |

I would have done the same, to get my ID out of the car. He should have first asked, "where is your ID", that way the guy could tell him. Not only that but the guy had his hands up after the first shots, and he did not have a weapon, so why did he keep shooting? How many cops are really like this out there? The cop acted like it was a little itty bitty gun shot and will not hurt. |

The training of these idiots is seriously lacking... I could tell what the man was going to do, he reached for his wallet in his back pocket and it wasn't there, so of course he's reaching into the vehicle for it so he can comply. The cop in this case was just clueless, seeing ONLY a black man going for a gun. |

Risk murder over a seatbelt ticket , sounds logical You would be surprised by the number of people who are arrested because of a minor traffic offense. Imagine 2 cars driving down the road. One car is 20 miles over the speed limit and the other has a headlamp out. Which car should the officer stop? Now imagine that you are the person driving 20 miles over the limit while the driver of the car with a broken headlamp just robbed a store some time ago and there are warrants out for his arrest. Which car do you want to be stopped now? In my 20+ years as a cop, I very rarely knew that I was stopping a bad guy. The vast majority of the people who I arrested, went to jail based on dealing with the occupants of the vehicle and investigating. |
