Jewelz (OP) User ID: 47025154 United States 12/27/2014 08:44 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Everything from screws out in and out, ankle scope, ankle replacement and fusion. After my last surgery I develop an infection in my ankle replacement and my doctor gave me the choice of redoing the replacement, complete fusion off all the bones which would also require cadaver bone, or amputation. Quoting: Jewelz Hey Jewelz. I'm looking at having both of my ankle joints replaced with the S.T.A.R. joint. About 6 years ago I was in an accident, absolutely crushed both talus bones and destroyed all the cartilage in them. I asked enough questions to get a little uneasy with the procedure before hand, haven't been able to talk myself into having it done yet, knowing that amputation could be the end result... Any way to get a link to your fundraiser up here? Leave off the .com ?... Hi! I am very sorry to here about your accident. I couldn't imagine having to deal with both ankles at the same time. You must have pain, and for that I am very sorry. It is tough. I had the STAR ankle replacement. It did not work out for me, but it just might for you! I have heard that a ton of people have success with them. Everyone is different. I would suggest having one done at a time. Please keep me updated on your situation. I understand that it is a tough desision, try to join a group on FB. They have a wonderful group all about ankle replacements. That's only if u have an account. I know a lot of people here don't do the FB thing! But who knows you may find if you have the surgery it may help improve your life, as they say ya' can't knock it until you try it lol! Amputation happens very rarely in these situations. I was scared of the infection and really knew that I would not be able to continue on that way. I was in a lot of pain everyday. At least I know the pain now is only temporary. Keep doing your research and when you are ready you will know! I will pray for you and keep you in my thoughts!! Thank you for the idea about posting my fundraiser. I will give it a try! Nope tried everything spelling it out leaving the dot com off blah blah blah. Maybe if anyone wants it they can just PM me? The extracted compound is called CBD (cannabidiol). Although it's said that the therapeutic benefits are more effective when the plant is consumed in it's natural (whole) form as there are many different cannabinoids/compounds that make up the chemistry of the plant and are said to have a synergistic effect when ingested in the human body. And its odd my uncle who's in his early 60's went thru the same thing as you and opted yet for a cadaver bone and another surgery. So far so good for him. I wish you well my fellow masshole :) Masshole hahahaha!! I am so very glad that your uncle is doing well!! I just couldn't go through with the cadaver bone option. Sorry to say it just creeped me out. I did donate my leg to science. My surgeon teaches at Harvard & he asked if the university may have it. I said no problem, I thought maybe it will help someone one day. Who knows! Take care! Pura Vida |

If for some reason I have long term pain associated with my amputation I will most def look into this option. I have been on pills way too long & look forward to not having to take them anymore. But right now it is still very painful and I need them. I keep saying this is only temporary! Again big hugs & thank you so much for all the information!! Pura Vida |

I am pushing through it. Tomorrow I start PT and I am scared. I don't think I am ready. It is basically just an evaluation so it shouldn't be that bad. I will update after! Thank you all for your support, it means the world to me!! Pura Vida |

Go at your own comfortable pace. Meditate, pray or do whatever spiritually assists you in recovery. Be well. |

Jewelz (OP) User ID: 47025154 United States 01/02/2015 04:34 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | My pain has been tough, but I am trying to keep it at bay as best as I can. I am excited to see what 2015 brings. I am trying to be positive. Happy New Year everyone by the way!! Things are the same financially wise. But trying to be positive about that too. Heck I guess if you dwell on the negative things, I will never get anywhere!! I really was so happy to see the posts when I logged on tonight. Made me smile. Just so caring and genuine. I will continue to update this thread every chance I get. My next thing I need to do is get a hold of my crap insurance & see if they will cover a knee ealker contraption. This will allow me to be hands free and a little more independent. Oh I forgot I did drive for the first time on Monday, even if it was less than a mile to PT. Felt awful strange!! This Monday I will be going to see my doctor so that he may remove the rest of my staples. My Prothetic guy Jason will be there to see how far along I am in my healing. Maybe we will get the green light to start the Prothetic making going?! I am worried because I still require heavy pain meds around the clock. Hopefully after I see my Pain Management doctor on the 14th my pain will have downgraded. I would love nothing more than to be pain free and medication free although I think from what I have heard from other amputees that I will still have to continue the Lyrica and some sort of narcotic pain med as needed. I heard the Prothetic leg fittings are painful. It takes time to get used to it! Please continue to pray for me. It really does help!! Happy New Year & Cheers to a healthy, pain free, positive 2015!! Key is not to let the bad ones drag me down. I have to find the positive in everything now. It is very easy when one is facing what I am to slip into a depression. I don't want that. My PT Dave is wonderful. I have worked with him before. He is the only one I will trust. He will go at a comfortable pace for me. But I need to get strong and build my endurance. I have some amazing goals that I must accomplish. Thank you so much for you response. I'm so touched that my fellow GLPers care!! Pura Vida |
