I'm going to the Trump rally today. If I get a chance to ask a question, what should I ask?

I'd ask him what he sees as the single biggest reason Washington has become so ineffectual and how he plans to change that. Is he for term limits on legislators, campaign finance reform (details). How would he handle special interest groups and lobbyists. How would he finance a national campaign. Why does he think legislators would be willing to work with him?

Re: I'm going to the Trump rally today. If I get a chance to ask a question, what should I ask?
Trump is going to be pretty near my neck of the woods up in New Hampshire so I'm going to go check out the circus in person. It probably will just be a rally, but considering how far north it is in New Hampshire, I'm thinking it may not be insanely crowded.

If there is an opportunity to ask questions, I've been trying to think what I would like to ask. So far, the thing that interests me most personally is to ask his opinion about student loans and how we can't file bankruptcy on them. I think a lot of people would benefit from being able to restructure that debt, and it would also bring down the cost of education since loans would no longer be guaranteed.

Frankly, I also think if he did support that, a lot of people in their twenties and thirties might be very interested in supporting him, another plus.

But, if someone comes up with a better question that won't come up otherwise, I might ask something else. So what would you ask?

so you think you should decide to go to school, go $100,000 in debt, then file bankruptcy when you're done so you don't have to pay it back?

Why would you put a price on education anyway?! Education should be elementary right obtained by birth. It's not like we are asking for free house or apartment. High education should be free like in most places in Europe before austerity kicked in. If you put money price on it consequence is lower class can't break through, its evil.

Something I would like to ask you OP, why do think people should be able to take out student loans that they can't and/or have no intention of paying back?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 69698120

Because we are sold and led into the belief that going to college and acquiring those debts will be WORTH it.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 69738136

I think it's a shame what happened to some people during this, that said, if you are ever allowed to file bankruptcy for your student loans, are you willing to never ever refer to that degree again on your resume?

As bad a deal as I think people got, I know some people that did not take out the loans and therefore did not get a degree, or did work study and worked only to drop out because it was too hard to support themselves doing both but did not take out the loans because they were smarter in for-thought about paying it back, I don't think it's fair to file bankruptcy and still list your degree.

Go ahead and make it legal to file it in bankruptcy but then make it a crime to list it or mention it on anything. I bet most would rather have the paper, if they worked hard for it. If you went and drank your education away and still managed to graduate, then I doubt you would mind the deal of returning your degree for bankruptcy court.

I would ask him, up til now what has he done with his money and influence to "fix" this country...considering that seems to be the motto he is running with now.

Additionally, ask him why he invested in Hillary Clinton's campaign efforts in the past.

Also, if he does not achieve political office, how will he use his money and influence to "fix" the USA.

Understandable. But how much would be current system be denigrated and how many would miss out on the opportunity altogether if higher education had to completely provided by the government.

Ask him if he believes that 19 skinny Arabs with box cutters (6 of whom have been PROVEN to be still alive) directed by a man on dialysis from a cave in Afghanistan where he had no internet or cell phone actually pulled off 911 without assistance from "inside" the USA.

Ask him if he believes multi-story steel-framed buildings can collapse due to cool-burning, black-smoke-producing diesel fires mixed with some office furniture and paper. (Remember, people were standing UNSCORCHED just a few feet away from these fires in the open windows.)

Ask him if he believes Mohammed Atta's passport managed to survive the supposed "blast furnace"-like temps that melted thirty-seven 4' x 4' insulated steel central core columns in both towers to land gently on TOP of the debris pile at Ground Zero.

Furthermore, ask him if 911 was NOT done as we've been told does he believe all of the changes to our rights and all the wars fought in the M.E. since have been justified, and if not, how he plans to reverse the damage.

Everyone in Washington knows that the obama is a lying fraud and unconstitutional. As president will you work to put the obama and his enablers in federal prison?

Ask him if he plans on watching the Kennedy assassination film if he gets into office; you know the one that shows what will happen to him if he bucks their narrative.

Ask him what the hell is he going to do about the 18.5 trillion dollar debt?
Nobody has a plan, they only talk about lowering taxes and spending more. They will destroy America with that debt if they don't raise taxes.

Good one...Ask him about a new investigation into the obvious murder of Vince Foster, the Clinton connections to drug-running through the Mena Aiport and the four dead kids on the railroad tracks, about the bullet hole in the back of Ron Brown's skull found after the airplane "crash," about Benghazi, etc., etc., etc. The Arkancides are numerous and never got a true investigation.

Re: I'm going to the Trump rally today. If I get a chance to ask a question, what should I ask?
That's a fair question. I think the student loan situation is a bit akin to the mortgage deal where they were making bad loans because they knew the government would cover them.

I actually think certain schools, including some of the more dubious for profit institutions, basically exist as a way to generate these loans which are really attractive for a certain sort of lender who lets people into school who probably haven't considered the ramifications. I see it as a sort of predatory lending scheme, really.

Sadly, I also think because the loans are guaranteed that it artificially inflates the price of tuition in a deal that both the schools and lenders like, which is supported if you look how much financial officers now make at certain schools, but it works to the detriment of the student.

I agree people need to pay their obligations. But I also think schools should be much more affordable, and the government through this policy has created an education bubble. We send people to school they can't really afford and then watch them try to struggle out of it. Some can and many do, but it doesn't need to be this difficult.

I believe that if you allowed bankruptcy to be filed, you'd have fewer loans issued and for smaller amounts. Maybe you would have fewer people going through school, but that's not a bad thing either as you don't want people going just because they can get it paid upfront.

I see your point. However, any sort of loan forgiveness and/or bankruptcy will have to be financed with US taxpayer dollars. It is not as simple as "writing off" the debt.

Additionally, there alternatives to taking on massive debt for a 4 year school (party vacation). A student could opt for going to a 2 year community college then transferring to a 4 year college or university for a fraction of the total cost of attending a strait 4 year school.

I just feel that if a person was "sold on something" that they are responsible for the choices that they have made.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 69698120

Mr Trump is a realist businessman, unlike all the other wannabees. As such, he realizes that this debt is, in large part, unpayable, and many people on social security in their 70's are still being dunned for old student loans that they either could not pay or did not, since the school failed in their obligation to provide value for value. All schools know, or should know, that all they are really doing is to provide credentials. The knowledge can more easily be found outside the institutions.

Regardless of the reason, this debt is a real drag on the economy. People in their 20's and 30's are not working and investing because they are paying these loans. If all interest was forgiven and interest guarantees to banks were eliminated, the principal would become payable. Allowing recovery from default more than once and doing so without having to make large payments for nine months would help a lot. Having a plan that eliminates collection agents providing that someone enrolls in a program to go immediately to an income based repayment system for the principal without having to dance through hoops of financial forms - something that the average person with an IQ of 100 or even less could do without a lawyer - would allow those that have simply defaulted for lack of knowledge or understanding to get right with the system.

The guarantee on loans should only be for the principal, and the schools/lender should be penalized for those students who fail to graduate. That would raise the bar on both of the above institutions.

Finally, regular BK should be available to those who have life circumstances(disease, incapacity, other unexpected) that make it likely that the loan can never perform as agreed, if at all. A loss of a job should automatically suspend repayment and accumulation of interest. Consider this is just an economic benefit to government, as it eliminates chasing those without assets or income and gives them the incentive and opportunity to get a real job.

The coming robotic revolution is likely to eliminate 35% of all jobs anyway, and we'd best position ourselves to deal with it. Personal responsibility is one thing, but even the schools are not teaching our likely economic future.

The benefit to the country, and the economy from removing this ball and chain is quite likely to be fully recovered in increased tax revenue and a greater economic pie.
